So i dont think anyone had ever started a topic on this. but i just wanted to see what everyone says on this topic.
heres the thing.. why do people buy cheap knockOff rims, for other than the fact that they are cheaper.
arent knock off rims most of the time cheaply made ? arent they more prone to basically be cheapp in the construction.
that is all. im not focusing on one certain rim brand. just wondered why buy cheap knock off rims.
oo and isnt it better to just buy the real rim. i mean, that way every time you walk up to your car you can be proud that you saved your money and bought the real item and that you arent rolling around with fakes trying to pass them as something they are not.
P.S. my new rims are going to be dope.

what are you going to do with the rims and tires you just bought, not interested in them just wondering why you would buy rims and tires and be replacing them before you used them.
as for my knock-off rims, my "BBS RS" are actaully konig remembers, i dont know if this is considered a cheap knock off rim. as konig is a good brand. reasoning for not having real BBS is the 5x100 bolt pattern is difficult to find. but i am looking for a real set.

im selling them. have them posted on like 10 diff sites. got friends helping me to sell them too. And i havent bought the new ones yet, waiting to sell these ones i got, but i already got my mind set on the new ones.
but leave rim questions about me to my progress log.
anyways.. well i guess if they didnt make them in the bolt patter for the real set then a knock off one would work.
i was just reading some things that knock offs where cheaply made. am i wrong then ? well maybe i am. just wondered then if all knock off rims are cheap. or does it just all depend on who is making it.

i think it depends what level of knock-offs you're talking, like Rota's i dont think you would have a probaly with, but there are some pretty cheap rims out there, i know i would never feel safe driving on them.

wait a sec. so in the case of Rota wheels.. is Rota a knock off from Work Meister..

i thought all rota wheels where knock offs of other wheels.
just to name a quick few
real = rota
konig retrack = track r
volk te37 = grid
works "something"? = g- force
works CR = curcuit or torque
anthony would probaly be the best at telling you what the real wheel is that rota copies though.

Rota does copy everyone's wheel. But it's not some no name brand on eBay.
For example, the Rota Slipstream, is a copy of the Regamaster Evo wheel.

^Its actually the Spoon SW388
Spoons = $2000
slipstreams = $500
Sure they're not forged, and weigh a little more, but I would much rather spend that extra $1500+ on my engine.
edit: Ninja. Can't a guy have time to edit his own post lmao.

well thats what i was trying to say , what level of knock-off you talking. Rota's which are knock-offs, what every why you put it there knock offs, but they are a quality rim still, there not a 189 bucks for a set of 4 off ebay rim.

okay. good paint there.
i guess i just wanted to hear what there was to say about knock offs. in that case i guess ebay knock offs are worse than actual good name brand knock offs. if that made any sense to you.

Also, there is no "eBay" brand. "Knockoff" wheels can be found on eBay for cheaper than they are on regular retail sites.
Sure, quality will be down a little bit, but are drifting this sucker daily, and only trailering it to events? Is it a daily that you drive around IN and want it to look good? Yeah, a cheaper rim may bend easier if you smash a pothole, but get a little bit thicker tire and splurge on a spare rim. Still way cheaper than "real" wheels, and plus...how pissed would you be dropping $2k+ on wheels alone, then bending the shit out of one? IMO, none of us on here drive these things hard enough and wild enough to worry that knockoffs aren't good enough.
(Except the track guys. But they usually have fucking Welds for the rear and some Koseis for the front or something)

Alot of times the high-end companies are they knockoff brands. BBS has ASA, Enkei had ETX and so on. Ive had and sold alot of the cheaper wheels and ive also had $2000 wheels. If im buying a chrome wheel I always pay the extra, because in 2 years you dont want the chrome piting or peeling. On the other had ive bought cheap wheels and have been very happy with my silver $60 a peice wheels. Sure its nice to have the name but most the time the look is dead on and the quality is still there

personally i don't have have 2-3 grand to drop on works, volks, or whatever else. i just ordered myself a set of rota p45r and the cost of the rims, tires, lug nuts, all mounted and balanced came to about $1450 (and thats including chicago's ridiculous 10.25% tax). a lot of people get snobby and worked up over wheels and talk shit about rotas and say that they will crack or bend very easily. imo if you did something to your rotas that made them crack i bet volks/work/whatever will be damaged too. If I somehow do damage my rotas I can replace it for cheap. that's win in my book.

Ya so imma chime in on the fake rims... i have Kobe Envy rims... they were 700 with tires mounted online.. they have lasted for a while and just recently i got a crack in one that i was able to salvage... i know i wasnt planning on running the hell out of them mostly highway some fun in the hills, so i didnt worry too much, but for the most part they wont see too much abuse... they have lasted my abuse... and for 700 not too bad

just a little edit....konig retrack are copies of the CP-R but have a bigger lip and somewhat different spoke design.

dont have a problem with "knock-offs" unless whoever has them is tryin to pass them off as the real deal.

It really depends on what conditions your car will see in the future, and how much money you're willing to waste. A lot of the knock off rims are decent quality, even though they may be slighty softer and more prone to bending when you hit a pothole.
My rule with wheels: You should not spend more than 50% of the total value of your car on rims. My one exception is gram light wheels, they are relatively cheap for the quality that you get. I've been drooling of the 57pro wheels for the past 4 years.

^Do some research, there are a few sites like this actually.
Most of you know my thoughts on fake wheels, and fake parts in general., but I'll gladly go over them again. There are a few reasons I don't buy knock-off parts:
-First, the quality is usually sub-par, especially in the true knock off companies, like those found almost exclusively on ebay. Rota, ASA, Axis, etc are considered high-end knock-offs, mainly because their quality is quite a bit higher than the bottom of the barrel wheels out there, but still nowhere near the real deal. You get what you pay for.
-Second, buying rip-off designs from one hit wonder companies is terrible for our community and the automotive industry as a whole. The companies that do the R&D to make legendary designs, like Spoon with the SW388, aren't getting the financial support from the aftermarket, because everyone is just buying a cheap re-make by some company who is only in it for the money and could care less about racing or the lifestyle. Rays engineering has been around for years, and is probably one of the most ripped off manufacturers out there. Fortunately, a lot of modern enthusiasts have realized what's happening to our industry and will only buy quality equipment. This all started with the JDM boom, where quality/rare parts took over the shows and the streets. IMO that is why JDM-styling is so appealing, because all the true car builders out there already had that mindset to begin with, but now we get recognition for it, so it fits perfectly.
Lastly, and most importantly for me personally, owning a part that took a long time to save for or was really hard to locate is a huge accomplishment. Having something that you've gone to hell and back for is a feeling like no other. Sadly, a lot of "enthusiasts" never get that feeling, because they almost exclusively buy run of the mill knock off parts. Those people rarely last in this community, because they simply aren't doing it right and that always catches up with them. I've been saving and compiling parts for my next round of mods for close to a year now, and it's all starting to come together finally. Walking out into my garage and looking at my heap of money never fails to put a grin on my face, because I'm happy with every detail of the car. THAT, is what IT is about.
Any questions?
