2002 Snowflakes - PlastiDip black before and after

Post by packfan88 » Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:16 pm

So i was looking to go with white rims but the local places only sell black plastidip. Thats what I did and think its ok looking. Not as cool as the black rims on my black truck but meh.

I have no idea what the previous owner did to the rims in order to get them to flake off and corrode the way they did, but a piece of 220 grit wouldnt do it. I just took a wire brush on a drill to them and cleaned it all off. Then I scuffed the other areas. If you plan on removing the plastidip obviously this isnt the route foryou to take but my rims were pretty much garbage (sans spending hours to refinish them or sending them out).

A it was more of a test of plastdip since i think i want white and
B I would think any real refinishing would require rubber off the rims and since im not doing that why go entirely crazy on them.

Nice Job on the Dip. Looks way better than my firebird wheels I dipped.

Neglect, wheel weights on the outer lip. Coated or not, they still scratch the paint, and it corrodes under them. Especially in states that salt the roads. Any weak point in the paint will let corrosion start under the paint. Then it spreads like cancer.
