Plastidip questions/Poll

Post by Ramroid » Wed Apr 24, 2013 12:45 am

I love the style of my SRT wheels, but they have that dull gray color. Doesn't match the shiny-ness of my car. Idk.

First thing i want to know, whats the texture of plastidip? i know the actual dip they use for tools, etc has a rubbery texture. What does it feel like from a can?

Also, white or black. On a 02' solar yellow SXT. I'm leaning towards white.

White loooks great on red, blue, and black but not sure how it will look on SY... I'd go with black. just my .02

I heard you should use a glossifier to make it easier to clean the rims if you are going with white.

There is a SY Lotus running around here with white wheels, and it looks like a sick combo. Its a female driver tho, and it looks somewhat girly, but looks good. I just don't know how plastidip sets up, i dont want it to be rubbery like the crap from the automotive store near me.

If you go with white i definitely need to see some pics... Plastidip makes their own glossifier but people have been known to put a light clearcoat over top. it makes it a PITA to peel off but its apparently easier to clean

I bought the same brand that they sell on Modern Performance, turns out Lowe's around me has a giant section of it. I bought 5 cans of white, 5 cans of glossifier. Most likely overkill, but i'll post pictures tomorrow after i do it. I might even make a "how to" thread, who knows. I think it'll turn out good..lol

Update: Plastidip doesn't like windy weather. I have to clear out my garage before i can finish. Also, white looks like total crap on a yellow car. Thats my opinion, i sprayed one wheel, looked like poo so i removed it.

Yellow is a tough color to find something that looks decent with it. It is either going to flow well, or horribly.

Gray, dark gray, or silver may not be too bad, if you don't want black.

Well, they are still the OEM silver at the moment. I sprayed one wheel white, it looked...odd. Reminded me of the VW bugs with white daisy wheels. So thats a no. Sprayed one black, looked good. So im going to go with black once im able to spend some time on it. Good thing about plastidip, if i dont like it, i can rub it off. lol

Decided to go with black plastidip. Turned out great in my opinion. UP NEXT: plasti-dipping the entire 57 chevy truck in front of my neon..lol
