Asian companies bring back old popular tread designs

Post by ragek23 » Thu May 15, 2014 10:54 pm

I just noticed this while looking for the cheapest tires i could find for my DD. The old falken 512 is now remaid by

Ohtsu tires:

And GT Radial a popular formula D and autox tire in asia which just came to the US is making tires with similar tread blocks to michlen pilot super sports & Bridgestone portenza

http://www.gtradial-us.com/en/category-sport.asp

about $70 a tire for a 280 treadwear tire (215/45/17). I might bite on these.

Well i bit the bullet and bought the Champiro UHP1 tires.

four tires 215/45/17 for $280 shipped. Another $40 for mounting and balancing at BJ's. So far the tires seem excellent for the price. Low road noise, great handling and great confidence in stopping. I would probably use this as an autox tire without any issues.

Wow - Great find !! =D>
These seem to be getting good reviews, too.

Too bad they don't offer this in 205/60R14, like Falken did. :(

IIRC Ohtsu always made Falken's budget line, I think Falken is trying to split their brand between higher end and budget.
