add a maintenance FAQ

Post by natepartlan » Thu May 14, 2009 5:47 pm

common failures, common rusty areas, when to do timing belt, fluid changes, etc.

or is the HT section supposed to cover this?

Generally the owners manual covers the fluid changes and general maintenance items.

OB will chime in soon.

Good idea, I'll definitely look into it. A maintenance schedule would be a cool addition.

Maybe since it would be a maintenance section, the values of sensors etc can also be posted there. The FSM doesn't give a lot of them. I was curious to the fuel sender ohm range for example. - Not provivded.

When I fill up I will record this, and post the info if this is a go. :)

Laughing at the rust everywhere comment.

OD- fuel sender ohm range? Or did you mean volt range? Just wondering. Please do record it and let us in on the info. All that kind of stuff is interesting...and possibly even useful.

OB- We should compile the "maintenance log" info from every year of owners manual. I have access to '00 and '02 owners manuals. I assume the '01's will be the same. I wonder if they changed anything on the '03-newer owner's manuals.

Also, the fluid specifications and common torque numbers would be cool.

Well as far as testing a sender, IDK how you could get the voltage value out of the car. But I can get the volts too, I just have to wait 350 to 400 miles for the tank to empy.
For full tank ohms, measured at C305 (below fuse box area interior)

Full was 1055 ohms (1.055 K ohms) and damn near empty was 165 ohms. The light was not flashing yet, but had been on for a while. I was trying my damndest to get it that low, but it was getting late.

I can measure the volts tonight. It should still be on full, as I only drive 13 iles to work. I can always top it off tho. Nothing like balls deep full, to make sure the float is pegged.

Edit: Ok Ohm range is 1055 Full tank and 100 Empty tank.

Volts are:*
"E" 1.55 volts
1/8 3.34 volts
1/4 4.45 volts
3/8 5.18 volts
1/2 5.73 volts
5/8 6.18 volts
3/4 6.70 volts
7/8 7.00 volts
"F" 7.28 volts
Max needle past full - 7.5 volts

* Eighth measurements are aproximate. All other voltages are dead center of the mark.
All measurements taken at connector C305, located just above the hood release area. Postion 12 is the wire for the fuel sender. I tapped into the wire to get the volts, and used a rheostat to adjust the gauge position. I figure this is where you would measure the voltage anyways, as I doubt you would want to deal with probing the connection at the tank. (unless the wire is severed)

Sweet, that would be awesome. I'll let you know once we figure out the format we're going to use.

I have the 05 owners manuals and FSM for Neon/SRT-4. Almost everything should be the same owners manual wise. And the 05 FSM covers the RT/ACR models even though they weren't made that year, which suggests that the FSM's are generic as well.

FSM's aren't generic, although they aren't vastly different either. I have 00 and 02 FSM's, and they are different. I want to get two or three owners manuals side by side and see if the the maintenance log sections are different. IIRC, they are slightly different.

I was wondering whether you can permit a word in the search engine? The word is "oil" which is unfortunately three letters. As a fan of "oil" I would be very pleased if I could search on it.

A three letter word works just fine in the search engine.

search.php?keywords=oil

Do you have any pictures of your neon over there in Russia?
