Yeah I got caught in some pretty extreme downpours just after Brookville on 80. If it wasn't for a fresh coat of Rain X I put on Thursday before I left, I would have been off the side of the road too. The rain was swirling around in circles, and the neon was moving around, so I got the heck out of there.

The thing I found amusing, was the folks with their hazards on still doing 65+ mph in the rain.

Yeah, I saw several of those as well. I assume that is what happened to the two guys over on the other side of the highway before they started swirling around in circles. I was just afraid one of them would make it over to the other side as he ended up going through the ditch orthogonal to the highway. Since I was not sure whether that barrier made out of a few posts and horizontal wires would hold him up I moved all the way to the right and came almost to a stop to see what would happen and whether I needed to start swerving to avoid getting hit myself. The barrier held up keeping him from going onto oncoming traffic. But that hit looked pretty nasty especially when you sit there on the other side waiting to see what happens.

Quicksilver drove from Missouri, at 1,560 miles, EJ drives every year at around 1,550 miles. You can do it!

Got home late this evening. Am very tired due to the very inconsiderate people at my motel who had several rooms in a row and all hung out right by my door (I had to put my running shorts on twice to go outside and ask them to quiet down so that I could get some sleep :cussing: ). After all of the heavy rain in PA and IN this afternoon, I hope that the weather clears up so that I can wash all of the accumulated filth off my car. Between the round-trip drive, the TMI :quotes: burnout :quotes: and auto-crossing, it has had a pretty good workout!

Even when I miss most of what is going on at the fairgrounds by staying under our tent all weekend, I still didn't get to visit with everyone. :banghead: Maybe I can do better next year.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with working on my car- told y'all that I was bringing a real tool kit!

We're number one! 2GN FTW! :wav:

EDITED to correct spelling error.

^^Justin, did I talk with you this weekend? I know more people by "face" than actual names (and even then it is more screen names than actual physical names).

Glad to see you made it home Gramps! I'm still bummed I didn't get to see you autocross at the fairgrounds lol.

Can't wait for next year, I always get sad/depressed when leaving because the people on 2gn are some of the coolest people I have ever met!

I think that someone video'd (spelling?) me on the autocross so maybe a link will be posted?

Did your allergies clear up? I know that being under the weather certainly puts a damper on enjoying Carlisle (like what happened to me two years ago).

I agree about the sadness when Carlisle ends and people go their separate ways. This past weekend almost seems like I dreamed it. :banghead:

Holy fecal matter Batman! That's more than what I've spent on tolls since the 2006 trip out there!

$1.00 on I-78W at the NJ/PA line heading there.
$5.00 on I-287E at the Tappan Zee Bridge heading home.

Hence why my cheap a$$ takes the scenic route.

There is no way the neon is going to burn that much extra fuel vs the turn pike. I might have spent $75 total in fuel for the entire trip. An ~hour extra each way is cheap compared to tolls. Stopping to eat is cheaper, and a far better selection.

At least with the Ohio Turn Pike, tow companies will not enter the pike to service or tow you unless you have AAA, so you are taking a risk if you don't have it or access.

Idk what it is, but tolls have always been high for us. I used to think I had my EZ-Pass set up wrong but that's not the case. Spanning ALL of Ohio and half of PA, then turning around and doing it again sure seems to pile up quickly.

On a lighter note, using the toll road within Indiana doesn't seem to cost me anything...

My toll charges were pretty painless compared to yours then- about $36 round-trip.

Which...still doesn't make sense. I'd be pleased with $50.

I assume the smaller amounts for the jogging between Harrisburg, Cucumberland, and Carlisle once we were in town. The medium ones are probably from there to the edge of PA, and the large ones must be what Ohio needs to sustain their construction every 6 miles.

Our other constraint was if we bypass the toll road, we fear gaining SEVERAL hours. Cedar Point goes from a 3 hour drive to just under 4 if we stay off toll routes. We just assumed the rest of the way east would be equally lengthened.

I didn't use the toll road locally, only I-76 south of the I-83 Limekiln Rd. exit and the I-70 New Stanton exit. I'm too cheap to pay local tolls.

Avoiding the pike from Wadsworth to Toledo adds about 30 to 45 minutes. That is taking 20 to 250 to 224. But I imagine the entire state is gonna add up. (almost an hour) You would have to take 224 to 76 to 80

regular roads route

Turnpike

While not always exact, they are generally within 15 minutes or so. I always stop somewhere, so it is tough to really tell.
