Finally got 19's

Post by JeremyJ » Tue Jan 21, 2020 2:48 pm

Say hello to my new DD.

Image

And check out the only issue with it. Kind of funny for those of you who know my struggles with headlights.

Image

I plan to debadge it and then just drive it. Maybe a K&N filter or something. It's just broken in with 36K on it. Still has a factory powertrain warranty to 60K. I traded my Durango in for it. I needed something that would fit all three of my kids and was either 4WD or AWD. This crossed off those boxes. The 3.6 is a decent motor that puts out good power. The interior is nice, with lots of cool cubbies for storage. The color is called Bruiser Grey and it's pretty rare. I thought it was cool. Magazine editors love to shit on the Journey, but I don't know why. I think they're cool vehicles. Are they fun to drive? No. But that's what I have the SRT for.

The Neon is officially off of DD duty and now on nice weather duty. That should keep it clean and out of trouble.

My daughter just recently traded her Journey for a used Bighorn Ram 1500.

I think it was a mistake, as it really made no sense. They have two children, the Journey was a 3.6 AWD.

It needed tires, but the Ram doesn't have the best tires on it either, and I bet those are hella more expensive.

22's IIRC.

I haven't heard too much negative about the Journey, but then buying one hasn't been high on my radar.

I think the 3.6 engine would be the only way I would get one if I were in the market for one. At least it's a proven Mopar engine.

These things weigh north of 4000 pounds, so that 2.4 is particularly gutless in them. I had to have the 3.6.

Yeah with that kind of mass, some bottom end torque helps.

It still impresses me how well the wife's Forester does with the boxer 2.5. (Actually closer to 2.4)
And the fact it gets 36 mpg highway.

The Forester is around 3500 pounds curb weight.

But then the CVT, and Subaru's AWD system really helps.

I kind of like the CVT in her Forester, it is overall a lot more responsive than the set up in the Caliber.

Subaru even added time to the CVT warranty after she bought it. So that tells me they are fairly confident in it.

My mom has had zero issues with her Caliber's CVT, fast approaching 200,000 miles. Too bad I can't say that about the other items.

Notes from the new car.

1. It's strange getting used to a backup camera. I don't trust it yet.
2. I still haven't figured out the boundaries of the vehicle. I find myself parking crooked because of this.
3. I don't like automatic transmissions.
4. I think the turning radius is better than the Neon.
5. I find myself reaching for my keys to turn it on and off, despite the keyless go system. Old habits, I guess.

As I posted on my A/C thread...I'll soon be joining you in the Journey Family. The one we'rs getting is nicely appointed, but not "all in"(no BU camera)...Not sure it was offered unless top trim in 2011....$4,500

This one is missing navigation (still has the 8.4" touchscreen with Uconnect), heated seats, remote start, and a sunroof. I think it has all the other options. The only feature I really wish it had was remote start, because it's so handy in the winter. Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's a nice vehicle.

Considering the R/T and SRT generally are the biggest turning circle neons made...

My '99 can pretty much turn around on a 2 lane, in one maneuver. But I swear it got a bit tighter when I converted to the Shadow knuckles. Another plus to using them over neon knuckles.

If all works out, the 2000 Deep Amethyst will also have Shadow knuckles.

Wrong section No Neon found! :P :P Doesn't matter since there is hardly anyone on here. Congrats on the kid hauler. Lots of people seem to be getting Crossovers/SUV's these days. The pentastar 3.6 is a great motor. What transmission is in it? 8 speed ZF auto? Love the color combo you got. What year is it?

I didn't realize non-Neon images need to go in Off-Topic. Oh well. Someone can move this if they feel like it.

It's a 2018. It has a six-speed auto in it. I think it's the same one that's in my wife's 3.6 Caravan. They feel very similar.

There is neon discussion in the thread. :P

Like said, not too many left to complain. I am too lazy to move it.

David or I would be the only two people active on here that would move it anyways.

I ordered a new set of headlights for it. I'm going to cake the seams with silicone before I install them. Let's hope I have better luck with them.

Bumper to bumper expired 800 miles ago. The remaining powertrain warranty won't cover headlights.

I debadged it yesterday. My thumbs still hurt.

Image

Someone had pulled the "O" in Dodge off the back and used sliver nail polish to paint the leftover adhesive. As a result, it looked like all the letters were there from a distance, but it looked like shit up close. My solution was to pull all of the badges off.

I swear I’m not stalking you! LOL

My fiancé also has an ‘18 Journey. Her driver side headlight also gets moisture inside. She hit a deer earlier this year, so I was hoping they would have fixed her it. I don’t know if they put on a new one or not, but it still has that issue. I told her to take it back to them, but she didn’t want to mess with it.

I saw a picture online of someone putting a little packet of silica in a light and it solved the moisture problem.
