Neoan? Cavilier SS's are nice. I just don't like rear of them. Its jacked up way too high and isn't as appealing to the eye as the "Neon" SRT-4. This is my humble opinion of course by looking at both vehicles from a broad perspective.
Plus looking at the last page it out performs the Cobalt in almost every category, from price, to passing at 100. Cobalts are 2 doors right? I wouldn't mind owning an SS though.

Did you notice the 0-100mph times vs the 1/4 mile times?
0-100 Cobalt: 15.4 SRT-4:13.8
1/4 mile Cobalt: 14.4 sec @ 99.3 mph SRT-4:14.4 sec @ 100.8 mph
WTF? It dosen't help that motortrend is totally sponsored by GM

So many neons so little time.

to quote another article, that i cant find right now...
"Compared to the SS, the SRT-4 is like an over-caffeinated 10 year old playing with a new toy- wanting everyone to know what he's got and showing it off to everyone who looks, while darting around quickly and making a lot of noise in the process. The Cobalt though, it's just sort of slightly sporty looking: more mature while just as fun. The driving experience is less rowdy too- the ride not as rigid, the seats more forgiving, and they have even installed a muffler, so the Cobalt SS is actually fairly quiet. Both cars work well to rush you off to wherever you have to be in a real hurry, but each accomplishes it in a different way. The Cobalt firmly grabs you and whisks you along your way instantly. It does so with authority and poise, but while slipping relatively unnoticed through traffic, never being violent, or dare I say it, frightening. When you ask the SRT-4 to take you somewhere fast, it punches you in the face, throws you over its shoulder, and runs, screaming, so quickly that its tires can barely keep up. Whichever one you pick, both will have you arriving with a smile on your face and more than a few curious stares."

I saw that too..... We actually are supposed to use 91. It's in the owner's manual. But all the other info seemed to par.Canuck_2k wrote:wow.. very interesting..
*VERY* close in compeition!
one thing that really grabs my attention - the SRT uses premium fuel and the cobalt ss uses regular.
1. TypoNeoan? Cavilier SS's are nice.
2. Cobalts ar NOT Cavaliers!! They replaced the cavilier. SRT4's are still Neons no matter how you look at it.
I still like the SRT4 tho. If they were still in production it would have been a hard choice to make. In the end tho, I'd still pick my SS because I've always been and will always be a Chevy guy. One day tho, I will own an Neon SRT4 (not the ugly Caliber SRT4) as a project car. lol... anyway, I figured that some of you might find the article interesting.

Is it just me or does it seem like this fellow came on here to harass us about how he believes the Cobalt SS is better than the SRT-4?

Didn't GM finally release an upgrade to the stock supercharger? How much HP gain?
You think the Cobalt will ever throw this much power?

Exactly why I bought mine. Why I sometimes refer to the car as "FrankeNeon" or "The Black Beast." But it will also behave just like any other Neon during errands, driving to work, etc. I love my car, what can I say?Neonix wrote::sign3: That's the kind of car I want.03blackrt wrote:That is the best description of an SRT ever.NiteHawk wrote: When you ask the SRT-4 to take you somewhere fast, it punches you in the face, throws you over its shoulder, and runs, screaming, so quickly that its tires can barely keep up. My skittle can run a 14.4 backwards...lol
If you are buying a little car like these you want something that will scare you, not "whisk you away"
Though maybe it's scary because I don't have a roll cage lol

um.....how does that work
but the motor trend number for the srt is wrong. we have all seen it time and time again that the srt will run between 13.8 and 14.1 in show room stock form.

No i didnot come here to herass you guys. I thought the info was interesting. Besides I like the Neon SRT4 more because its agreesive like nobody's business but the only way to get one when I got my SS/SC was to get one used and you know that no one buys that car then trades/sells it before the beat the snot out of it first. I was done with used cars. Ya, I could have waited for the Caliber SRT4 but my girlfriend has the SXT model and it's so ugly inside and out. I'm cool. Plus I'm a chevy guy.racer12306 wrote:Is it just me or does it seem like this fellow came on here to harass us about how he believes the Cobalt SS is better than the SRT-4?
I just get that a lot. It's getting old.I was joking about the Cavilier thingy. Don't get mad.
One thing bugs me tho.... You Neon guys (includes SRT4) get all the USDM Sport Compact Media exsposier. I'm jelous.
Yes a stage 1, 2, and 3. The stage one is practically useless because the stage 2 has everythiong the stage 1 has plus a pully and tensioner and belts.Didn't GM finally release an upgrade to the stock supercharger? How much HP gain?
Here's the specs.
Stage 1 Performance Upgrade Kit, Cobalt SS/ION Redline.
For 05-07 Saturn ION Redline and Cheverolet Cobalt SS only.
This kit enhances engine performance to 230 hp (up from stock 205 hp).
Stage 2 Performance Upgrade Kit For 04-07 Saturn ION Redline And Chevrolet Cobalt SS only. This Kit enhances engine performance to 245 hp (up from stock 205 hp). Includes high-flow injectors, supercharger pulley, new special length supercharger belt & specific performance engine calibration.
Stage 3 Performance Upgrade Kit is available but can't find out where but is said to have 76 mm pulley unique pcm 2 pass intercooler in the pcm adjustable revlimit up to 8000 rpm octane switch spark curve for 100 octane racing fuel and a nitrous switch into the pcm to run a 55 shot. I can' remember what the HP and TRQ gains are. This kit has been shown off at a NOPI event but which one I can't remember.
Supposedly Gm is coming out with Stage 4 and 5 but no one knows for sure.
