My poor fiance (with pics, 56k warning) Good Update: 9/10

Post by racer12306 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 6:55 pm

She just can't catch a break. 3 accidents in one year, none of them being her fault. She was just rear ended on I-95 on her way to Philly. I'm here only because her dad was minutes away and I was atleast an hour away. But when I find out whats going on, I'm going to head up.

She said the other persons airbags went off, so I know from that it had to be a hard hit. Her back is killing her and she is going to the hospital. But other than her back she is fine, probably pretty upset and pissed off, but physically ok. I just hope this doesn't lead to long term back problems.

I would assume this is the end of the Beetle. She said the back is SIGNIFICANTLY worse than our hit and run situations. The car is not drivable.

I have come to the conclusion that we are not allowed to go to school any more. The hit and run was the nite before the semester started, the other little mishap was the first or second day of the semester and now this is the day before the semester begins.

I'll update on the status of her and the car when I know more.

Thanks

Mini Update: She was pushed into the car in front of here, but there wasn't much damage from that. The woman that hit here was really upset. The people in front of her were helpful and calm. I'm about to head out.

She appreciates the good words from everyone.

She is in a good bit of pain in her back. Hopefully we will get a rental squared away tomorrow because her first class of the semester is tomorrow evening.

For those that saw the pics of our hit and run accident, the car was hit very similar to that. But it looks worse.

I hope she will be alright. You might want to get a personal injury attorney.

Good luck!

The insurance is being good about getting her checked out and necessary medications. They told her to keep all receipts for medications and they will reimburse her.

She is hurting pretty good right now. Hopefully the anti-inflamatory drugs will help over the next couple of days.

Thanks to everyone again.

I have pics of her car and the taurus that hit her. I'll post them up after I get home from bowling.

One bad thing is that we noticed the rear seat is shifted towards the driver sides a good amount. The cushions are compressed against the interior of the car.

The other womans car has to be totaled. Both air bags went off, which broke the windshield. The whole drivers front got messed up and the door is hard to open. The window in the drivers door even got messed up, like popped out of the opening a little.

We also finally have a rental car. She got a brand new Chevy HHR. Seems like a nice car and its higher up so its more comfortable for her.

ouch ... her car is fixable .. so is the tarus ... gotta love how they designed those airbags ... every single one of them from that gen ... busts the front window when the airbag is deployed .. almost if by design

Hopefully it will be fixable. We wanted to get atleast one more year out of it before we traded it in. I know they can do amazing things with frame machines, but they cost $$$.

One big plus is that being that its a German car, it has held its value extremely well. Back in Feb it was worth $7000. It helps that it only has 81000 miles on it.

So we are hoping they can fix it.

the main way i look at a bug (new and old) ... if the doors still open and close, it can be fixed ... (basically if the roof is good and the door frame area is square) ...

but the money part does play into it ... i have seen quite a few that looked like tincans ... but the doors could open ... be repaired to new shape ... with a little stretching .. and some cutting and replacing of the bad stuff ...

Sorry to hear, glad she is still alive and okay!

Ford rant time:

Everytime I see an accident a Ford is involved and usually the culprit. Most off all the cars that cut me off or are horrible drivers..Are Fords. Now she got rear ended by a Ford Taurus. The ugliest model year of them all. AHHHH I hate Fords.

End of quick rant

Yeah, the ford driver got a $160 ticket. Don't know for what, but I would assum following to close, and maybe something else. Hopefully she got 3 or 4 points, if not more.

i dont know it doesnt look like they would fix it, i think they might end up totaling it out due to the excisive frame damage, you guys might be able to buy it back from the insurance company if she is close to paying it off or if it is paid off already.

Its a 98 and has been paid off for a year or two. It's bone stock so there probably wouldn't be any point in buying it back.

We will put the money towards another car. Possibly a Caliber if it can be afforded. She likes them, and it would be a good family car.

Calibers are good cars (reliabilty and comfort).

'course peformance wise with the CVT tranny there isn't much you can do. My buddy has a black one, and I wasted him in a little street race that we did. You could just wait until the SRT Caliber comes out (lotsa horses+fwd=no traction lol).

How is she doing ?

The SRT would definitly be out of the price range, plus she can't drive a manual.

Performance wouldn't be a concern. It would be a daily driver. Plus with the lifetime warranty probably wouldn't want to do anything crazy with it.

She still hurts, but it is getting better.

True, true.

I work for a dealer, and I can tell you we have had very little problems with them.

Glad to hear she's on the mend.
