mac on pcs

ok short version.... i have been talking to my dad... and he doesnt understand why you cant run a mac OS on a self built computer....

i believe you cant because you can not buy the entire mac os platform like you can with windows (i think)...

so the question is

a. does mac sell there os as a full verson for use on any computer?

and

is there a way to put mac on a pc

you can buy a mac that will run both OS's. it ain't cheap but from what i have heard it is pretty good.

i kno you can run mac on windows.....

but there is not a way to put mac on to a brand new hardrive correct

takes more actions to move through interface, interface is not intuitive (never has been since day one, long before Windows version anything), and ONE BUTTON centric designs.

You can run a Mac OS X on an Intel Processor based computer. You have to follow certain instructions listed at a site called OSx86.org? (just google it). The Mac OS X will not run properly on your self built computer due to a few reasons. One being that the drivers for the Logic Boards (aka Motherboards) for items like the chipset, graphics, USB controllers, RAID controllers and firewire. The devices all need drivers to communicate with the operating system and each other. For Windows and Linux you have to install drivers. The Mac OS X only has a specific set of drivers installed. Since all of there laptops are identical mobo wise the don't need many drivers. Same goes for the desktop. It is WAAAAYYY more work to get the Mac OS to work on a standard computer. Its based on UNIX but that doesn't mean its open source.

Apple does not sell an OS that can be run on a PC but it is possible to run OSX on a PC. There is a great website, I can't recall it right now, that has the ridiculous list of stuff you gotta do to build a PC to run OSX and windows.

I have an Intel iMac that I can run Windows on but I have ZERO reason to do so other than to get a Zune for dirt cheap, boot into Windows to add and delete stuff from it and that is not enough reason for me to go through the paces just to install Windows anything on my Mac.

you have to build a hackintosh. There's no -easy- way to build your own apple computer, but it's possible... just takes a lot of time.

(I'm an ower of a Mac mini and a MacPro at work. I've gone though 3 various size iBooks, had a Powerbook, and also a Macbook. Needless to say, I'm a bit of a mac expert haha.)

if bootcamp had nice support of all the hardware, *and* there was an appropriately powerful vid card equivalent for a mac I'd still be running my G4.

More crap I need to do on the wintel platform... Apple makes some fantastically sexy hardware though. Way overengineered compared to everything else, but man is their packaging nice (and i don't mean the boxes they come in - although those are amazingly well done as well).

They had some awesome deals on refurb Core Duo Mac Mini's but they are sold out. $469 or something like that. Not bad at all.

I was looking into a Touch myself but if I can find a JailBreak'd iPhone that is unlocked for around $400 or so I will pick it up instead. I could use a bigger iPod that plays video so I might as well just get an iPhone for a few bucks more. But I am with T-Mo so I gotta get it unlocked. We shall see though. Tax refund season is not far off so...once the debt is paid off we shall see what things happen for me! All else fails, I will get a refurbed Touch when they come available.

Apple refurbed stuff comes with the same warranty as a new product, looks new, operates like new...just costs at least 25%+ less. We gave a 2GB iPod Nano for christmas and it can't be told from new. Love it. $83 shipped. Beat that!

80 something bux... You're talking the previous Nano, not the new one that plays video, right? Wow, my Sansa Express is 2GB, w/ 2GB microSD slot... radio, voice rec, etc, and sounds great.. and I only paid $60 shipped incl. a nice case. And it's smaller than my roommate's Nano. It's easy to use and it can plug directly in with no cable. Easy to read screen. I like it. I'm glad I barely passed on buying the iPod.

I guess even with the 25% "refurbished" discount their prices are FTL

Too bad, their design is nice.

Yeah, 2nd Gen Nano is what we gave. I am not a fan of "drag and drop" Sansa/iRiver/Mizou/etc players. I like Apple stuff for what it does, the easy of use, the durability and the fact that I have a Mac at work and at home and most of the other MP3 players DO NOT support Mac computers. Mac people have iPods and that's about it. Unless you wanna get a copy of Windows and have an Intel Mac and dual boot into Windows to run a completely different program to jukebox music. I would have gotten one of the first gen Zunes for $80 but that is what I would have to do to use it on my Mac.

This is what made my want my Nano. Beat it to death takes alot and it just keeps on going. Flash based is great if you don't need a ton of space.

Besides, how good is your FM radio? How good is your voice recorder? How often do you use them? None of that is useful to me at all. I want an MP3 player. Hell, all my cell phones play MP3's and have a jukebox feature and expandable memory but I never use them for such unless I am out of room on my 4GB iPod and jump drives.
