Sound Like A Scam To You...

Post by Karizmatik » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:34 pm

Original E-mail I recieved...I played along out of curiosity

2003 Dodge Neon SE
From: Arthur Powell (arthur.pak47@yahoo.com.)

Hello,
I just place a look on the item you placed on website and am highly interested in immediate purchase of the item, but before i move further i will like to ask some question regarding on the item.

1 :- Is the item available for sale as for now ?

2 :- What is the condition of the item ?

3 :- Do accept Check as mode of payment?

4 :- Where is the item located ?

5 :- What is the final price of the item ?

6 :- Will you let my global shipping company to come to your house for the pick up of the item cos i don't want you to worry yourself about the shipping of the item.?

7:- if accepted kindly get back to me with your full name and contact address including your phone number so that check could be issue to you.

Arthur Powell.

His reply

Hello

Thanks for the quick respond am okay with the price of the item and i also got ur payment information, concerning the shipping.... shipping cost would be added to the payment coming to your way which means that you will be receiving a check payment that will be more than the sales amount of ur item,so once you receive the check you will deduct the sales amount of ur item and then transfer the rest excess funds to the shipping company that will come and shcedule the pickup of the item down to where it was wanted..Let me know if u will be able to do that so that the check cound be issue out today via ups..and we also need trust in this transactions between me and you..

Then My Reply...

Where would the car be shipped to ? If it's far I don't understand why u'd want mine, I gotta be honest.. There are prolly 2 billion Neons out there for sale. Also, I just want to get this correct.. Your going to send me a check, it's going to pay for the car plus whatever it cost to ship it. I get the check, I deposit it into my account or get it cashed or whatever. Then I send money that you gave me for the shipping to whatever shipping company you want to use. They come get the car. Then of course I'd just transfer the funds to the lein holder and have them ship you the title or I'd ship it to ya. Is that in the ballpark of what would go down ?

His reply...

Yes you are correct, the Car will be pickup Internationaly to Benin Republick,so that is why u dint have to worry ur self about shipping,so once u got the check all u have to do is to get you item amount deduct and transfer the rest excess funds to the shippers that will come and pickup the item,i will provide you the shippers info as soon as u got the check, and u will have to make sure u got the excess funds transfer to the shippers sameday u got the check..i will go ahead and contact the bank to get the check issue out to you so that u can get it asap..

It was through craigslist, what you think lol

Why the check is probably no good. The key there being the shipping company is either the prime or is getting a decent percentage of the difference. Its a derivative of the Nigerian E-Mail Scam.

Dude!!!

You are missing a GOLDEN opportunity to be a pimp.......

Send that mofo a toy Neon, but when you send it, make sure you mark it a high price for customs, they have to pay like 20% or some crap for import taxes.......just mark it as jewelry, or rare item, and like $5000 for the value.

I'll even help pay for the shipping.......

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

That's like, the number 1 craigslist scam.

Every time I post items for sale, I always get at least of those emails.

I've never shipped things in this way, so the idea sounds good, but won't the scammer notice when they show him the box that is no bigger than a shoebox? Couldn't he just refuse it at that point, knowing that he'd been had? How are these taxes "forced" upon him?
