SS/SC Project Log: pictures of the fun stuff
I figured I'd start a nice little project log for my '06 Cobalt SS/SC
The day I brought her home (April 14th):
The next day it was time for a debadge (yes the car is dirty as hell... it's been driven 400 miles already):
That Saturday I went in for a tint job. 5% in the rear, 20% on the sides:
Then it was the shorty (exact same one that was on my Neon):
Mods in the upcoming weeks:
-Tint the tail lights/side markers (Niteshade is in the mail) done
-Install Alpine system from Neon (everything I need is in, just looking for somewhere to install it at) done
-Get a professional detail (being done my Amit) done
-Paint the inside of the headlights black (being done by Amit) done
-Paint rims either black or dark bronze
-Eyelids half way done
-Stage 2 going a different route
It should pretty much happen in that order. By the end of the summer, I'll have my winter rims/tires ordered and ready as well as a ZZP header/downpipe/high-flow cat combo with a Magnaflow 2.5" catback. Dunno if I'll get the full exhaust though, considering it'll be around $1,200.

Yup, factory. Saves my warrenty when installed by a dealer
I could install better stage upgrades for the money, but I am enjoying my warrenty too much right now.
Actually dropping the car off at the dealership tonight because of this:
(cluster is displaying strange things)

Got a phone call from the dealer, they have to replace the instrument cluster.
which means I have to drive a rental until they're done. Not to mention, they have no idea why the rear bumper is popped out, so they get to have the body shop look at it. Hopefully the bumper is covered under warrenty. It may not be considering i don't know the cause of it. For all I know someone hit the car and I just never noticed.

I wouldn't so far as to say not as -nice- as a SRT-4. It's defentally not as FAST. Personally though, I think it has a better exterior and I do like the full leather interior, not to mention I have no use for 4-doors.supertrick_05 wrote:Damn nice car Opi...as long as it's not a product of the blue oval, I'm happy for ya! Nothin wrong with the SS Cobalts...just not as nice as the SRT-4's
It doesn't even have as much potential as a SRT either. But, I'm not a crazy speed freak. I just wanted decent power in a good looking package. But, in comparison, there is a street driven DD Cobalt out there making 411whp on comepletely stock internals. Only thing is, they made it turbo.
A twin-charged kit is releasing sometime this year, I'm hoping to actually give that a try. The wine of a supercharger coupled with the spool and BOV of a turbo = all I could ever want in a car.
And yea, no fords for me. Ever. No. Seriously. I hate Ford.
Eh, nothing Mopar out there I'd drive right now.Midnight_Rider wrote:Lookin' good, Josh. Not a Mopar? At least its American-made.
DCx really went down hill in the fast few years. They need to create a coupe of SOME sort in the same class as the Neon. Then maybe I'd go back some day.
I'm one of those people that listen to referrals.kplaya186 wrote:Awesome! Glad I could help!Opi wrote:Sure did.
$220 out the door, 5% in the rear, 20% on the sides, with a 5% strip on the front. Took the guy like 4 hours though because he was slammed. nice people
And you made a good one I must say.

Stage 2 cobalt will eat up a stock SRT. but mod for mod, SRT wins everytime. I don't know about the new cobalt SS/TC honestly. I'm thinking it may actually beat out a SRT.
if you have the same driver in both cars that is.
friend stage 2 srt got raped by my buddies statge 2 cobalt ss/sc
however, i rape both with stage 1 and mild bolt on's.
from a roll stage 2 car gets me by a car, (maybe), but we both leave the cobalt by buses
how much to the cobalts weight anyways?

3874 lbs, so it weighs about a thousand pounds more
And I forgot about the driver factor. But just saying with two skilled drivers, essentially SRT = win
I really want to see the new SS/TC up against a stock NSRT-4 and CSRT-4.
I knew buying this car it wouldn't beat a SRT. Hell, I knew I wouldn't be able to hit 300whp easily without swapping to a turbo set up or twin charing it. But I'm ok with that. It looks good, is faster than a nice amount of cars, and still gets awesome gas millage. And, i'll take a coupe over a sedan any day. I hate having passengers.

3m tape is how they'll be on
and actually, 300whp is a bitch to hit on the stock supercharger in a cobalt from what i've been reading. actually, i haven't found a single person that's done it yet. the internals can hold around 400whp turboed (one person DD's a 411whp turbo cobalt, completely stock on the inside.)
most cobalts, with EVERY bolt on, aggressive tune, port and polished intake, charger, ect, only hit about 280-290whp. the stock S/C just isn't good for it. Now if you swap for a Harrop HTV 1320 you're better off. (the swap alone hits around 270whp) but Harrop just released the kit (i think it's harrop....) and it hasn't really been out to the public for very long.... so there's not much proven data.
i should be able to hit 270whp with a bunch of bolt ons, meth, another heat exchanger, and an aggresive tune... but i'll be pretty much dead in my tracks from there on out unless i use nitrous. (and no thank you)
