Wait I just realized... You're already at 144. So you're only planning on gaining a few HP?

I am being conservative, always have with my mods and usually have been a tad higher... When I originally dyno'd I guessed it to be at 135 - got 137, then this last time I after the LTH install I guessed 142 - got 144.5 :D

I hit a snag, and cannot get the damn crank pulley bolt off, not even with 300 ft/lbs of torque on my impact wrench. :( I am going to have to find a higher torque wrench or suck it up and buy one  I might hit up my mechanic tomorrow and see what he can loan me if anything at all. Other than that the engine just needs to get the crank pully off and then I can lift the engine out. No pics yet

Yeah, I left it on and had the machine shop take mine off, and they complained to me that it was hard to take off. You could call them if you want and see what they ended up having to do.

GOT IT!

I got it off, all I did was reverse it for a second, then back the other way and whammo, came off, no problems, bolt is fine, no strippage, all is good!!! I also did it right before I left on Vacation. So, anyways, I go back to working on it tomorrow, we shall see how it all works out!

I will post more updates. I should have the entire side cleaned up and off (timing belt, etc) and the head off the car tomorrow, then all I need is the engine lift to get the damn thing out... out yeah, and got to remove the transmission as well.

Sorry guys, the other day I forgot the camera, and I removed a crapload of stuff, just waiting on an engine hoist... plus with school starting back up and me having nothing but seminar classes - UGH, lots fo work. I am thinking about either getting a hoist for rental from somewhere, or maybe trying to get John's  But I have been such a noshow lately, I doubted you all rememberd me.

As for the valve springs, I am not removing them. I think I am just going to clean up the head, or have it cleaned professionally - etc... I just can't afford to waste more time... but it is off..!

The eingine is hanging by a thread right now... everything is unbolted and it is sitting ready to be lifted out, just can't get a hoist  At least I can not find time to do so.

Pics to follow later, maybe tonight. :D

well, took pis today, as well as removed a few more small pieces from block I forgot about. I began to feel overwhelmed as I was reading the Hayne's manual... I noticed it says remove transmission with engine.... do I have to? I almost put it all back together, no new pistons, just new pump, belts, etc, and drove it to a mechanic and say pull it! But decided not to frak out and ask so questions. Look in the ENGINE thread for my post.

PICS.

Does you haz truck?

You can borrow it if you pick it up / bring it back before I'm ready for my swap (~ a month or so).

I'd say I'd bring it to you but my truck's tranny is going out.

Courtesy update for Andrew:
I dropped off the hoist the other day so he should be getting the engine out very soon. The engine bay looks naked, just the short block bolted to the tranny. Good luck Andrew!

UPDATE, without pics...

LAst week I got the engine out and took it to the machine shop. They are hot tanking it for $200, installing everything in the bottom end for another $100, cleaning the head, boring/fixing the valve guides, replacing the seals, installing the pistons (need a new rod on one DOHC piston, spun bearing), and installing the new pumps (water/oil) and preping it for install for another $240, then checking the crank and balancing for another $100 if needed. So all in all, I am getting a whole new engine, including parts and the shop work, for..... ah hell, I dunno, I never added it up.

Machine shop: $540
Pistons: $55
Water Pump: $35
Oil Pump/Pick up: $110
Gasket: $60
Top End Gasket Set: $150
Misc Belts/Hoses/Fluids: $150

TOTAL: $1100

That is only $100 over budget, unless they need to balance the crank and polish it... another $100 there.

Oh, and I had to spend almost $700 on tools... I bought a brand new air pump/tool kit from sears... misc stuff etc.... and then there was a few toys I bought to put on the car:

Push Button Start from a Honda S2000: $45
New Turn Signal MFS: $40
New Tachometer w/ Shift Light (2 1/16" cup mount), Autometer: $130
ACR Cuda Stripes: $55
Adam K. ODP: $55
New PS Pulley: $20

Who knows what all else, I have so many parts waiting to go in, on, under, inside, outside.... caliper paint, wheel paint, etc...

Total build price around $2000. Flip side is I have a brand new engine good for another 100k miles or more! The ACR will live on! Next rebuild will be include a Turbo, 8.0:1 Compression Forged pistons/rods, all necessary turbo components.... you get it?

I may do Megasquirt next summer, depends on job after graduation (hopefully teaching!), followed by some coilovers.

Well, that is all, if I find some time to take pics, I will. I head to Canada next week (Wednesday) for a convention where I am preenting a paper then Graduation in December, and in January another history convention in New York. Fun times!!!

I have a push button start but it is my cigarette lighter. I took it to Rad Performance, over 40 years of experience between 3 guys, and they love working on big blocks and what not, but they told me that my block is fun to work on since it is half the size, it is half the work  It is alomst done.... the head has all new gaskets, etc and a 3-angle valve job, cleaned, bored, and ready to plop back on. I will definately see more power from just having the head worked over. Top that off with the dohc pistons and booyah!

Peace.

Well, I am in Canadia right now, beautiful country, for sure. No progress, but I thougth I woul dupdate on a little snag from Wednesday. I got a call saying that a piston "blew up" when installing it on the rod... so I went and looked at it - yeah, blew up is right (will get pic soon). So I got a new piston, after going to dealer - 196 for one piston/rod, but no longer in existence; went to pep boys, one piston/rod = 90, none available anywhere; went to Autozone, piston only 60, ordered it needed to wait 5 days or more. So stopped at OReilly's for grins and giggles and the guy had one in the city, would be delivered by 3pm that day, 43!!! got it at 3:05pm, took up to shop by 3:30pm and the mechanic was HAPPY. So I got a brand new piston for 43 and tax - now I want ALL new ones! Oh well. Should be done this week for sure. I will pick up either Monday or Tuesday.

I got the engine back last monday, and had no pictures!!! :( Sorry guys... I have been super busy and keep forgetting stuff. I actually got the engine back in the car, head is on, intake is hooked up, the header goes on next, then the rest will be plugged in and all will be ready to go soon!

I will keep ya updated. Maybe if I remember to do so, I will take other pics. The engine turned out great!

I have the old pistons, one busted ocmpletely through. I had detonation in #1  just like I thought. one piston is destroyed as well.

updates to come!

WHEW! DONE.

And no pictures. Wow. Sorry guys, it has been freakin crazy, so I give you a short story.

Saturday, I got into the car big time, and got the engine in, everything going, and basically started up. Except there was an oil leak!

So I was not sure what to do, and quit that day. I ended up figuring it out later though, so on Sunday I took a guess and figured out it was the camshaft oil seal.

So today (Tuesday) I removed everythign out again, and got the ehad off, and installed the missing camshaft oil seal. WEE!!! And now....

It runs!

It is alive, and it runs great, it sounds brand new, and man it is wierd driving it since I have driven two Hyundai's (Accent and Elantra) since the ACR went under the knife. Sorry guys, I know, no pictures, but things have been really rough and when I woudl forget the camera, I just said Fudge It.

So, car is finished.
