LowNSlow's 91 CRX SI - Project UPDATED
LowNSlow's 91 CRX SI - Project UPDATED
I know what you're thinking... how the %*$# does he have a project thread when he is in Iraq...
I know I mentioned buying another SRT-4... I almost picked up a Orange Blast ACR for $12,000 but after having a good talk with the wife. We BOTH, yes both, decided that it was not best for us to get into more debt. We are wanting to purchase a house in the next 2 years so we are down sizing all our debt.
I've had 5 CRXs... some clean.. some quick... some beaters.
I love the cars... they are light, nimble, handle damn well and can be very quick with a little bit of money....
This one was posted up on a forum for $2,000...
Only thing done to it...
Suspension
-Skunk2 Springs and KYB Shocks.
-comes with CRX Master bushing set. not installed.
motor
-d16A6 with a y8 mini-me head swap.
-crappy no-name intake.
-head was ported and polished.
-obx valve springs.
Miscellaneous
-Drilled front and rear rotors.
-Pioneer CD player.
-Short shifter
-oem civic wheels
-new yokohama tires.
I called my wife and told her to go check it out for me and if it's as straight as it looked in pictures offer him $1,000 cash. Well, he took the $1,000 so now I have a 91 CRX SI in my stable.
I've had several cars... I've added my touch to each of them but most of them were bought already as is. So this is kind of like my first full project...as in everything done by me. I'm excited...
It might not be a quick project but I want to do everything right the first time. If it means I gotta save for a little bit to buy the better quality parts then so be it.
You see an eye sore... I see potential.... this car is pretty straight for its age and the interior is damn near mint....and even an a/c panel that's not cracked. (Pretty hard to come by)
First plan of attack is to get it painted...probably going to go with Nighthawk Black Pearl... we'll see bout that though.
Updates will be slow as I am not home to do little things to it...

Sunroof does not leak but it needs rebuilt... (can hear it wanting to work but doesn't)
A little update not that many care.. but I just ordered a HKS Sport exhaust for it. Easiest way to describe the HKS exhaust is.... it's like the 2GN R/T exhaust ... stock sounding with a little bit of nice sound when you get on it.
Crappy picture...
I also bought a CF ZC Style hood....
Now it just needs a passenger fender / front lip... and paint...

Not that anyone cares or keeps up with this... but I figured it's the only forum I got the "build" thread on....
I got the ZC Style CF hood in... and the HKS Sport exhaust in as well... I can't stop looking at pictures of the exhaust. It's awesome looking...
Also ordered a new passenger fender...
Got a new oem steering wheel as well.
I love ordering stuff for this car...it should all come together nicely when I get home.
I'm looking for the wings west polyurethane kit for it.. (only clean / oem looking kit for the CRX I like)
And sourcing some new carpet and mats for inside.
Pics of the hood at home and the exhaust...
And hood...

Probably going with the OEM Rio Red... just for ease on my wallet as a color change would definitely kill my pocket.LilSparkPlug wrote:Exhaust looks good, what all does this kit look like that you speak of? Most CRX's around here are absolutely horrendous. One has a kit with Dodge crosshairs on it. I've seen very few clean ones, but it seems as though yours is going that way. What color are you painting it?
The kit I am talking about is what this car is rocking... well minus the fact his front bumper is pretty cut up for his FMIC...
I like how it fills in the doors with some caps and imo makes the body look cleaner.
The holes up top are suppose to have amber lights as well...
No speed holes in the rear either...

A b16a2 would scream in that thing, specially if you boosted it. or get the b18c5 and do a poor mans type Rs. You should check out Project car mag (issue 7 i think) they do a low budget boost build on a d16 in a crx and it turned out pretty good. I love hondas!!!

A k would be nice... we'll see...unsuper man wrote:save your money/
do it right the first time.
put a fucking K in it.
add a shim, and make 550whp stock bottom end/heads/cams
on a decent sized turbo.
get a K or GTFO.
My current D is leaking oil according to the wife... I might just do some maint on it to make it reliable while I save for a K... not too sure.
I've been following it too!
I kind of regret selling mine, but it was necessary to get my SRT.
'88 Si with a B18 and B16 tranny, 90% restored, 99.9% rust free, Y56 Phoenix Yellow (original Y49 car), and TONS of fun!
I was getting ready to order a J's front lip, amber corners, coilovers, and some new shoes for it, but decided to sell it and put all the money towards my SRT. I don't regret it.
With the bronze Hanabis and nasty tint..
No tint and black '91 Si wheels...
A decent motor shot...

I've done the SRT-4 thing... and I miss the go-kart feel of a CRX
LOL.....plus paid off and cheaper parts are nice....
I'll research the K swap but most likely end up with a B16.... I don't think I want to spend $8,000 in a swap alone...
I might end up with just the OEM body (no kit) as well.. we'll see.
