According to chrysler, this is normal and OK!

Soaking a clutch in oil is never good for it. Surprisingly the clutch friction disk is still about 1/4 inch thick and pretty dry. It only really slipped a bit for the first few engagements in the mornings, other than that it was fine. Even at the track it only really slipped if you were being silly/stupid with it, even then the slipping was minimal at worst. Old clutch with 211 000km is going back in

Just an update. She's getting colder here, enough so that it's in noise making territory again (20°F). It requires more cold to make the noise, but it still makes it so input shaft bearing is not a factor in this one.

I just bought an 05 Sxt w/ 20k on it about 3 weeks ago, I think its starting to do this. Its stops when it warms up. Is there a link to report the problem to chrysler? How do I go about doing this. I am 2nd owner so I transferred the 7 / 70 warranty. I read both threads, looks like there is no fix we can do, eg changing fluids... right?

yeah dont worry about it, out of everyone.. mine was the only one that made HORRIBLE noises... I fixed the issue
I bought an srt4.
but besidees that I know what causes the funked up sounds., its internal and its brass parts.. I can go into detail but I feel lazy, I passed on the message to my current R/T owner who replaced those parts with an older r/t tranny... problem solved.

I've been waiting to hear someone update this topic, its that time of the year....
The issue's with these trani's are the syncronizer stop rings. They prematurely fail, and during the cold weather months they rattle worse because of the lubrication taking longer to get to this parts. The whole issue is covered in this topic on how to diagnose the problem. There is no real repair for this transmission since its no longer used in production and there was never a real string of complaints filed with Chrysler about this issue.Since there was not alot of complaints, Chrysler really knows nothing about this problem and there is no "Fix" for it other than to replace the transmission.
For those of us lucky to be covered under the powertrain, it costs $100 to get this issue resolved. My last transmission ended up being covered under the Mopar warranty since it failed in less than 1 year.My current T350 does not have this issue and its the same part number as my last transmission except its production date is different.
If your tansmission is experiencing the "Ring Rattle", take it to your local dealer to get it replaced under your powertrain warranty...

after 1 brand new tranny... tons of arguing and $1700 worth of repairs to discover the same noise.. the poor r/t had to go, and dodge still gave me 11 grand for it, they didn't notice the super bad noisy tranmission, so I had no choice.. LOLBlackRoseRacing wrote:^^^

No rebuild kit available, all individual components.NPG has 3 ideas on a reapir for the T350 to fix the "RingRattle" but like I mentioned before, since there is no demand from Chrysler, your just going to replace the trani to fix the problemfixitmattman wrote:fixitmattman wrote: Is there a part number available for a 355 rebuild or synchro kit?
not under warranty
they definetly need to come up with a fix for this or start selling new trannys for less $$$....
What are all of us who dont have a warranty suppose to do?

In most cases, the trans isn't going to come apart. It's just a noise.
Why would they issue a fix for a car that has been out of production for almost 5 years?

Bringing this topic back up....
There are SRT owners with the T850's having trani problems now....
I myself have an issue also:
The past few months at an idle my ring rattle has been back, now on the way to a show last Sunday my third gear grinds every time I try to engage it! I have to actually double clutch it to get it to grab third gear!
I'm contacting my contact again over at NPG for some support...
I'll post details later.....

I had switched to Amsoil before Carlisle and the ring rattle noise got quieter, but was still there. So when I was using ATF+4(stock) and Amsoil MTF I had the ring rattle both ways exept this time I actually have trani failure. The syncroniser stop ring for third gear is bad causing me to grind 3rd gear every time I have to engage it. I have not heard back from NPG/NVG just yet but my Chrysler Rep stated we can cover it, Defective Mopar part with 1year6months/21,000miles.

We'll found out that since I paid a $100 deductable on trani #3 that gave me a 3year/36Kmile warranty on the trani. That's why I'm able to get it warranited. So T350 #4 will be in my hands Tues the 15th. What's funny is Chrysler does not even have it priced out yet:
RL080980AE - trani - $0 MSRP - Unpriced dealer cost
And it's already in transit to me

I have not heard of this problem from anyone with the t850 trans, HOWEVER
t850s are prone to third gear failure from abuse and the TOB fork bending causing horribly tob rattle..
I've done alot of research with the t850, and I highly doubt they will get the famous ring rattle
I can't beleive your still getting new trannies dude, chrysler gave up on me when I was on my second.
However, I never did tell you my old r/t is driving around still, with no more noise.. suprise suprise, guy who bought it worked for the dealership, and must of got a good tranny

There is an easy fix that works for around 50% of the 350 and 350HD transmissions.
First remove the end plate in the drivers side wheel well. Clean up the RTV and pull the input shaft's(closest to the front of the car) rubber(actually fiberide, donut looking thing) boot out of the end. Grab some needle nose Pliers and then pull the oil pump out. It is a little too small and loose. Since they are loose they rattle(in addition to the brass synchros) a lot when cold. Also, since they are loose, they don't push enough oil through to the synchros and needle bearings.
You can either bend it in the middle to make it fit better or take a punch and flatten 4 spots on the outside edge of it. Either way you want it to be very tight when going back in. Make sure and put the rubber plug back in the end of the shaft post install. Clean the mating surfaces, re RTV it, then torque the end cover to 21ftlbs.
