I don't know about that Ryan...Dante sounds kinda experienced in this car robbing thing. lol

You might want to hire a security guard to keep watch of your car. But make sure that guard isn't Dante in disguise. rofl.

haha I'll keep that in mind Sean.

well it's been a bust weekend for the neon. some good, some bad

I'll start with the bad.. After I got out of my car this morning I realized black and white scuffs all over my back bumper and lip as well as some paint removed from my car. I understand it's just a car, and it's 6 yrs old at that but I was still pissed! I was able to buff a lot of it out but some of my paint was damaged and I had to touch it up. It just aggravates me that people are so inconsiderate of other peoples property. I guess that's what I get for parking my car on a narrow street in the city where college kids live that can't fucking drive.

Thees pics don't show too much, but it gives you an idea

Well on to the good! It's the little things that make me happy. I got a present in the mail yesterday from Jason and promptly put it on

Thursday, I had some time to kill after work so I decided to go to Jo Ann Fabrics and see what they had. Well, I ended up finding some black suede for $21.99 a yard, but the home fabrics were 50% so I got a yard of that for $11.76. I had time today so I basically followed Paralyzer's How-To and reupholstered my door inserts. Exceptions that I made were that I drilled the plastic rivets out instead of melting them, and I used 3M Super 77 to adhere my fabric to the plastic insert. When I was done I used hot melt hot glue to hold them back on but I didn't trust that too much so I put on some molding clip things that screwed on the two plastic nubs to ensure the inserts don't fall off... I hope. This is basically what the fasteners looked like:

I'm pleased with the results, Let me know what you think.

Looks pretty good! I've wanted to do this but I'm terrified I couldn't get it all back together without looking like crap, haha.

How do those nut things work?

haha thanks guys, means a lot

Sean, those fasteners are essentially a nut for a plastic shaft. It's 'threaded' in that it has a slit cut where the top bends over which works to screw the fastener tighter when you put a nut driver on them (I did it by hand). I guess they're called speed nuts, or cutting nuts. Here's a better pic to get an idea how they work

Image

a site that sells them:

So did you have to buy a new set of those fastener nut things to reinstall it together?

It looks awesome Ryan!!! I do plan to do this as well in the future...It's just that I'm afraid of ruining it like Sean does.

Nope, didn't buy them. raided a bin of fasteners my dad had in the garage

I'd go for it. I've never done anything upholstery related before. I just read the How-To to get and idea of what to do, cut the fabric, Super 77d it on. hot glue the panel back on then put those fasteners on for added security.

If you don't drill the plastic welds out and just melt them like Paralyzer did, I suppose you could plastic weld it back together.

If you drilled the plastic out, what did you fasten those to?

there are two lpastic guide pins that aren't plastic welded to locate holes in the door panel. I screwed them on those. you can see what I mean here. They are hard to see but at the top of the panel you will see two X shaped studs sticking up
