Buying brakes

I'm trying to buy new brakes, but Auto zone likes to give you the hard one. And Advanced Auto has lost my love a long time ago. So I'm looking at Rock Auto..

I think I've got it, I just need to replace my front two disk brakes, do these looks appropriate?

clicking shopping cart isnt going to show us what you put into your shopping cart....

not to mention that your link is the generic link to get to the site's catalog.... you gotta tell us specifically which ones youre looking at......

not sure what problem you were having at autozone, but i got my pads from them...... rotors from advanced auto.....

Also, Rock Auto sells generic OEM replacement parts. No upgrades there from what I have seen.

I have the Duralast gold ceramic pads from autozone and they have been great so far (about a year) Lots of pad left, almost no dust.

I just bought Raybestos Professional Grade pads and Advanced Technology rotors from Rock Auto and even with shipping I saved money over buying from the local parts store.

+1 for me. I want to get slotted rotors, but I love the Duralast golds on stock rotors. No dust on the wheels now, but with my new more open wheels I seem to get dust on my sideskirts...

have the same ones and autozone rotors mine work great and have plenty of pad life

I don't want upgrades, I just want to replace the old.

drilled/slotted is essentially just a show piece on these cars. stock discs and pads work just fine. only "upgrade" i'd make is a low-dust pad.

I think I'm going to go with Brembo rotors and Hawk HPS pads. All together like $165. Thread OP, def look into upgrading.

if it's a daily driver what is the need to upgrade. OEM replacement stuff is decent.

IF you are going to get hawks id get a cryo-treaded rotor cuz the pads are hard and eat away at the rotor quite quickly.

I thought the Duralast Gold CMAX's were harder than the Hawks. If not, should I get the Golds instead?

Upgrading is sort of luxury, my neon is 4 colors, 98k on the clock with no a/c and crank windows. It's even a 5spd. I'm not worried about performance from my beater! I just want her to stop without squealing at everyone around her!

I wanted to mod her and make her fast one time. If I'd done that then I want some brake upgrades. But, for now, I just want her to quiet down. =D

I think tomorrow I'll just run by Auto zone and get some part numbers to cross reference.

you do not want a slotted rotor because you said you wanted as little dust as possible. Slotted rotors will stop you faster and disperse water in wet braking conditions; however, they will produce more dust. How? Every time you brake you will be putting your pads against a cheese grater. The slots do help the pad bite the rotor and will stop you, but you will have a little more dust and better braking.

I recommend keeping your solid rotors, or slotted only if you want that increased performance. If you brake gradually and easily you shouldn’t notice more dust. Power slot is a great brand. Hawk performance street pads are great. I have them and I'd recommend them.
