Looking to buy digital camera, need suggestions

Post by DannyBoy » Tue Sep 22, 2009 1:11 am

Can someone point me to a good digital camera to buy. I'm not looking for the most features or anything. Just a simple camera that takes good/great pictures (especially night time!), has a large display, and that is fairly simple to use (nothing too fancy). I was looking at the Nikon coolpix but wanted to see if anybody had any other suggestions.

My brother owns the less expensive version of the Nikon Coolpix. And it's not too great. When you take a pic of a light source such as your house's light bulbs, it creates a line of glare that stretches throughout the picture. And when you take pics at night, the photos can be very grainy and blurry.

I haven't experienced the higher costing coolpix model though. So whatever you do, dont grab the lesser costing coolpix.

Tripods solve the "night photo" issue. Just decrease the shutter speed, set on tripod, and voila.

As for your question, I don't know of any simple cameras. I have a Canon Rebel XS... so ya lol.

All of the Sony point and shoots the I have owned take some pretty damn good pictures. Nothing compared to my D60, but still really good for a point and shoot. Plus the Sony's have and ISO rating of up to 3200 so the night time shots are pretty good too.

I love my camera. The flip/swible screen makes low shots sooooo easy. Lots of options and takes good pics. I didn't pay that much for it either from CC. Canon A630

ok after reading this........... i must say you want to take nice great Night picture right? well buy a
DSLR
Canon or Nikon

I personally have a rebel XS great buy, but next year buying a EOS 5D Mark II or a 7D what i don't like about the 7D its not full frame, but might end of getting it because of its price point unless things are different next year

I would recommend anything by Canon, their cameras are just great.

I have a high end digital one....cost about $380.00 if I remember correctly.

Remember, if you buy DSLR cameras, they might not come with the lenses, meaning you will have to invest in additional lenses (about a couple hundred dollars for each)

Digital should be fine.

Canon, Nikon, and sony seem to be the most recommended so far. I'm gonna head to costco as soon as they open today and see what they got!

Go there, play with them see what you like.

When we needed a camera we went to Best Buy and played with the cameras and picked the brains of the sales group. It is nice to have one that runs on AA batteries, but the specialty batteries last quite a while.

I ended up buying one of the new nikon coolpix. It's PERFECT for what I need and actually takes great pictures, so I'm happy.

Any Canon or Nikon are gonna be awesome. My brother actually just picked up a nice Fujifilm or however they spell it for pretty cheap. Takes awesome pics for what he sent and it has a 10x digital zoom.
