SRT-4 Exhaust

Post by paranoir » Thu Nov 05, 2009 4:02 pm

On my 03, I found a decent deal on an SRT-4 Cat-back exhaust for $60. This is a direct swap right? I wont have to do any welding? I was reading that there was a weld required to fit around the suspension? And will there not be enough backpressure where I'm going to lose power?

i was going to go loud and obnoxious, i dont know why but it sounds interesting. i'm sure i'll get sick of it after a while and quiet it down a bit. I answered my own question by using that fancy "Search" link. I've found that it is a direct bolt on, no welding or mod required, it should line up to the cat just fine without using a glasspack in place that would require cutting. BLAH Sorry for being a NOOB.

I have an '03 with an SRT-4 catback that I got for free :P OB and a few others can vouch for the loudness too.

Direct bolt on, but I really couldn't imagine this thing without a glasspack. I have a 25" and it still screams. Just last night, my friend was in the car saying how it wasn't that loud (which is nice, because it's not that loud INSIDE the car). I made him stand behind me while I revved it and these were his exact words, "Holy shit that's loud, like a fucking explosion through your pipes!"

So yea, I'd glasspack it. The lowest I'd go would be 15".

What do ya think it's a V8? If there were a way to make it sound like a nascar, trust me, I'd have done it. With these cars the loudest you can get is to take off everything except the headers, and I think that would sound like shit reverberating under the car.

Possibly you are already hearing impaired?

Or the cat is plugged.

It's more of a vibration than a noise at that point, and yes it sounds terrible. I had to go a 1/4 mile with just a LTH and it was stupid loud.

You can't really get louder than not having a muffler.

A header will make it louder as will removing the cat, I do not suggest the later.

Count on the police knowing you on a first name basis pretty soon.

You can order a 30 inch cherrybomb resonator, it sounds very nice with that in, ask opi (aka. Mr.JoshZombie) he had that setup, and sugguested it to me. And its perfect, however yes the cops will be on you about it.

waynes car has a srt setup with an obx mid-length a high flow cat and a glass pack and its WAY too loud. its louder than my r/t with no cat a spiral flow muffler as a side exit. i would suggest a real muffler or a spiral flow in there.
