The past three days have sucked...

Post by darthroush » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:13 am

It's amazing how back East you can have feet upon feet of snow without major/long power outages, and you get a foot and a half of snow up here in the mountains of California (who knew, right?), and you have no power from 7:00AM Monday morning until 9:00PM Wednesday night. Fawk. At least I have power again. The apartment is now up to 46.4°F, with 4 heaters on high. The temperature was so low earlier today, the thermometer gave an error of "LL.L°F," LOL. At least I didn't just go grocery shopping...the refrigerator was about twice as warm as the apartment.

Its because you Cali folks don't expect it! All our stuff here in the Midwest and EC is built and prepped for garbage weather.

I was talking to the guys from the office in San Antonio yesterday... they were whining that it was only 63 degrees.

They could have always joined me here for yesterdays first blast of winter, dumping of snow and usual rash of fender benders due to the boneheads not having snows installed yet or having to learn to drive all over again... yes... no more speeding.

I was driving around constantly the past three days, starting at about 8:00AM Monday morning. I lived back East. I know how it can be. I have pictures I'll have to go through later and put up. I did have the pleasure of seeing many dumb things people do while trying to figure out how to drive in the snow. I almost ended up on top of another vehicle because of it, but anyways...

Apartment is up to 56°F now. I just fell down ******* the staircase outside. My bad is really ****** up now, along with my ankle. Off to school, yay. Pictures to follow.

I've been working in mid to upper 20's for the last week. Freezing cold wind makes it feel even colder too. The weather here has changed a lot, it's not the CA I used to know. It gets so much colder than it did a few years ago. Global cooling? :cussing:

I came back from my class last night at 6 PM to find out that the entire area of the city where my apartment is was without power since 2 PM due to wind taking some power lines out... I'm was pretty pissed since I had a homework due last night that was saved on my desktop which I couldn't turn on (of course :roll) and on top of that finals week is starting and I have exams to study for so the library would already be full. The electricity didn't come back on until around 11 PM apparently. I was pretty pissed because this happens more often than it should in this day and age. By now, we should have buried power lines everywhere so this isn't an issue.

Some idiot would just dig them up.

A large power inverter, and a car battery will get you going in a pinch.

When we had the big black out here a few years back, it was the first thing I bought. Then you find creative ways to use it when the power is fine. 110 volt electric impact wrench in the middle of a field is one of them. A 750 watt will run about anything within reason, and they are not that expensive. It's when you go above that, they get outrageous.

Edit: The only thing they will not power is a refrigerator. :(

My power just went out an hour ago @ Panera for interwebs now!

Hopefully it gets fixed tonight before it gets really cold out.

Well, went to the hospital earlier. No cracked ribs thank God. I didn't think I had any, but man does it hurt. I do have "soft tissue" damage though due to the fall. 3 days off of work and a bottle of Ibuprofen. Woo. Supposedly it's a 50/50 if it is supposed to snow to 500ft again. If so, I'll get pounded again since I'm a tad above 2,000ft.

Y'all realize that most of California gets cold during the winter, and the areas in Northern and Eastern California has similar weather conditions as Oregon and Washington.

It's a huge misconception that just because you live in California you have warm weather year round and you live on the beach and everyone surfs. I remember the really bad fog every year and the months without even seeing the sun. It may not snow in the Valley but it still gets down into the 20's during the winter.
