$29,000 Challenger: Guy got his car!

Post by sidepipe87 » Mon Mar 15, 2010 8:49 pm

This guy won an auction fair and square from a dealership on eBay that was too dumb to put a reserve price on their auction and now they won't honor it because it's an absurd price in their opinion. I think it's BS. It's a binding contract. If you screw up, you eat the cost. If you were to try to weasel your way out of an auction you'd be forced to pay up. Why is a dealership allowed to break the contract?

^^^same here

I know a small time guy like you and I would be forced to sell it regardless. Don't know if a company has the power to over-ride that.

well this is current so I guess we'll see how it plays out. The guy wants to hire a lawyer.

Someone posted a similar story about another Challenger and the dealer actually made good on the auction.

A lawyer plus $29k is still probably cheaper than a new SRT8 so it's certainly worth it.

I hope the guy gets the car, the Dealer is getting really bad PR now as a result of it and is probably going to cost them a boat load more. I would also picket outside stating something along the lines of their dishonorable tactics to let "future" customers know how they really do business.

that happens every week all over the world. same here.
Cars in wrong eBay sections, bad pictures, bad description, stupid end times and such - and they went for almost nothing. And the stupid seller always tries to break the contract.
They try every way. From - no that contract is not valid cause the price is much too low over that car was stolen last night to whatever else!
But a contract is a contract.
With a good lawyer you will either get the car or compensation for buying a more expensive car.
(I mean: auction ends at 29k, dealer don't wanna deliver, tells whatever - and you can definitely not have the car. So now you have to buy a similar car for 49k: and the dealer who screwed you has to pay the difference. He has to compensate the 20k that you have lost now. Cause: It is not YOUR problem and your fault that you have to pay now 20k more for the same car...))

If they were smart they'd just sell it and take the loss.. It's getting publicity either way, it would work in their favor to do the RIGHT thing and honor their contract. This would garner them more respect and potentially more customers and sales.

This is true unless you include the GT500.

^if you start including cars like that, which are a bit more exotic, that opens up the spectrum to vipers and so on, which is a completely different playing field in my book

How is a Viper included in a Challenger/Camaro/Mustang category?

In my opinion, even though it doesn't always go in favor of Mopar, the 6 cylinders are all comparable, the Challenger R/T, Mustang GT, and Camaro SS are comparable and the Challenger SRT-8 and Mustang GT500 are comparable. The Camaro doesn't have a higher end model until the Z28 is released.

I called the dealership's sales department "Hello Glenn E. Thomas Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep...." that's when I cut the guy off and replied "Just give Mr Hitman his challenger he won fair and square" Hung up after that, didn't care what the guy had to say.. Just wanted to tell them my opinion.

I fucking hate dealerships, I understand the concept of making money but

A: dealerships around me screw you left and right, sometimes they will give you a new asshole if you're not car smart.

B.: This dealership fucked up, they should honor it. This would get them some good publicity for owning up to the auction and I bet they would get a few customers from honoring their mistake.

If you want to leave a message, or call.. Info below!
