3/20/2010 - Clutch Install Day 1

Post by dbesade » Sat Mar 20, 2010 8:47 pm

Updated 3/20/2010 - Clutch Install Day 1

Okay so my buddy from South Carolina came down to help out and so did LionHeartedSXT (Chad). Both were extremely helpful in getting the tranny out. Tomorrow we install new clutch and put everything back :-). Here is a whole lotta pictures of today. Oh and holy crap the clutch fork was worn down! We had 1 issue with the Oil Cooler, its busted, prolly been leaking and that was the source of my slow leak, well today it became a fast leak. Ordered a replacement and it will be here Monday. Sucks. Please comment

you can delete the oil cooler for alot cheaper than replacing it and it allows you to run a larger oil filter.. wasn't sure if you knew or not

Yea but doesn't that decrease the longevity of the motor? Had to be a reason for Chrysler to put it on there in the first place.

I never understood the big oil filter mod either. People say the factory oil cooler is restrictive and all that other shit but it must serve a purpose if it's there (IMO)

According to my sources it takes a lotta load off the oil in terms of heat and its a very good thing to have on this car. I am very happy to replace it due to that.

for the price of the oem oil cooler you could do the big filter oil mod and do a nice aftermarket oil cooler setup if your set on keeping one

Status Report

Post by dbesade » Thu Mar 25, 2010 12:48 am

Update: 3/24/2010

Received 2 Boxes;
-1 from Rock Auto containing the replacement Ball Joints
-1 Envelope from the Mopar E-Store Containing my cam seals.

Car Status

3/23
-After Assistance from Chad (LionHeartedSXT) and Dan (NeonDan), and some other locals, my clutch is in and the car is mostly reassymbled.

3/24
-I left my phone in my co-workers car so I couldn't call anyone for assistance. I installed the new Oil Cooler (Note uses a 12MM hex key which I got from Sears, along with the Vice Grips to crimp off the coolant lines so I wouldn't drain the rest of the system), Axles, Charge Pipe, Cold Side, Boost Lines, Misc Sensors, Struts, Brakes, and everything else torn down for the clutch.
-Start the car, runs great
-Primed the cooland system which was about a quart and a half low!
-This clutch is more aggressive than stock and will require some getting used to.

LEFT TO DO (All Parts in hand)
-Timing Belt (Oil Pump, Water Pump, Tensioner, Idler Pully, Belt, Cam Seals)
-Ball Joints (Both Sides)
-Suspension Bushings (Full Kit)
-Install Stage 2 WGA
-Clutch Pedal Pivot

Great news thats its coming together nicely. I have that same clutch setup and I had it down within 30 minutes of city driving. Drives just like stock. If you got the street disc that is.

Yeah its the street disc. It really grabs quick though, I guess I'm just used to a worn out clutch. The fact I changed my Slave Cylinder as well may have something to do with the pedal feel as well.

I'm glad I was able to get some maintenance done as well.

Update 3/25/2010 - Installed the Stage 2 WGA

Man you should do it, made a huge difference on mine.

Anyone doubting this should grab the Return Oil Line off the turbo and tell me the oil isn't hot. That oil cooler does make a huge difference.

Update 3/25/2010 - Installed the Stage 2 WGA

3/25
-Well as far as the clutch goes its grabby enough where I stalled twice in first gear today . After about an hour or so of city driving I'm much more used to it.

-Tonight I buttoned up a few loose ends and got my Stage 2 Wastegate installed. Some of the 2 people reading this may remember I was using an AGP Wastegate but sold that after issues with my Warranty. I am a Stage 2 w/Toys car so the Wastegate should be an improvement over the stocker I was running. Its nice to be over 14 lbs of boost again :-).

Tomorrow I plan to leave for South Carolina for the weekend, should be a lot of fun and will give the PCM time to learn the WGA Adaptives.

When I get back I plan to have my tie rod ends and Ball Joints replaced and a 4 wheel alignment done. I'm hoping to have this done within a month as I have a torn Balljoint boot and my rod ends look okay but have a little play so I'll just do them now and get it over with.

By the time I hit the 100,000 Mile Mark my ride should be just like new again.

LEFT TO DO BEFORE 100,000 Miles
-Timing Belt (Oil Pump, Water Pump, Tensioner, Idler Pully, Belt, Cam Seals)
-Ball Joints (Both Sides) & Tie Rod ends
-Suspension Bushings (Full Kit)
-Clutch Pedal Pivot
-Rebuild Spare Head w/Stock parts

Well the trip up here to South Carolina went smooth I should be heading back tomorrow. Well even on vacation I can't escape car maintainence lol. I had to replace my windshield wipers out for new ones, I got rain-x ones for like 7 bucks a piece at target.

On the trip up here I averaged about 24.5 miles per gallon at an average speed of 85. Well I'm making this post from my iPhone so I'm going to go but I'll post a full update on Tuesday or so once I get home.

Update 8/16 - Accident

Post by dbesade » Mon Aug 16, 2010 4:24 pm

Hey Everybody,

Been a while, I've been stealthy but around. I have been buying parts for a secret plan ^^. Bad News, I was broadsided on Wednesday, August 11th at 6:45p. The lady did stop but refused to give insurance or stay for the cops, it was rainy and cold so I didn't get her tag.

The Damage to the Skittle is as follows:
-1 Cracked rear wheel
-Tons of scratches along the rear driver quarter
-Plenty of dents to go with that

The car is already in the process of getting fixed and should actually be ready today or tomorrow. I also got the wing re-sprayed as most of you know I lost most of the clear coat on it and it looked terrible. I'll post some pictures as soon as I can. Sorry for the slow reponse. My poor skittle!

Massive Update - 12/18/2010

Post by dbesade » Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:31 pm

Update - 12/18/2010

Where to begin? Well lets back up. ... after my accident everything has been golden, no issues, etc. So fast forward to a few weeks ago, I needed to do my Front Swaybar Bushings, endlinks, ball joints, and maybe my timing belt.

I got all the suspension/ball joints stuff done, and everything torqued (so I thought ... more info on that soon) and we got the upper timing cover off ... all to find out I don't have the tool to pull the Cam Gears!. I Inspected the belt and it looks great for 103,000 miles, little wear, no teeth missing or rubber chunked, so I'm leaving it for now. I also replace my Radiator cap with a new dealer part (GET THIS, new one is 17 PSI not 18 ...). Fast Forward to tonight ...

I am on my way to the highway and I hear this gawd awful rubbing ... not thinking anything about it since it has been raining, I hit the brake a few times thinking its that surface rust stuff that happens when its humid all the time. I keep going and turn into the convinience store to get a drink and a snack for the ride over to my girls house and SLAM BOOM HOLY SHIT! My car (going 35MPH) slams to a halt and then limps off. I get into the parking lot and confirm that the Brake Caliper Bolt (Lower) is missing! I call a tow truck as the car isn't safe to drive home and get it all torn apart.

With the tire off and everything showing, I'm looking at replacing the rotors (best to do in pairs) pads, and tracking down another caliper bracket bolt. I'm seriously lucky that I wasn't on the highway or I would be in a lot of pain right now. I also wish I had a ride to the parts store haha. Guess either that bolt backed out or wasn't torqued down all the way :-(

Update 9.18.2011

Post by dbesade » Sun Sep 18, 2011 6:35 am

Hi 2gn,

So Oregon is beautiful, at least in comparison to Florida :-). So this past Thursday (9/15/2011), the inevitable finally happened. On an uphill 6% grade, my timing belt exploded, leaving myself, and my 3 passengers stranded 130 miles from anywhere, including home. A $650 Tow got the SRT home and was paid for by my towing company (whew).

I'm hoping since I was in 5th gear at 1500 RPM that I didn't get any valve to valve contact (SRT Motors are free-wheeling and have clearance for Piston-to-valve but not necessarily Valve to Valve.)

Whats new around here, I introduced a couple guys to the site out here, one of them posted somewhere.

Update - Car is alive and I've been bit for modding

Post by dbesade » Thu Sep 22, 2011 4:13 am

Update 9/22/2011:

Well, I got the the car back from the dealer, I provided them with a Water Pump, Idler Pulley, Tensioner, and Timing Belt, and they tossed in a free set of Cam Seals and a working car for only $450 (Labor). My car no longer misses, is much quieter, and is not running as hot. I could post pictures of the old stuff if anyone really wants to see it ... or even reads this anyways.

The Maintenance
-IAC Motor ... Ordered from MPx and Installing Friday
-Axle Seal ... Parts ordered at the dealer and have an appt Saturday to get fixed.

The Fun
-Ordered some LEDs for some Lighting Modifications. Feeling a bit like changing up some things in the interior. Doing the HVAC, My Gauges, and the Dash Lights. Probably close in color to what LSP has/had I haven't kept up.

The Plan
-Side Exit MPx Exhaust (Works for me since I have the Single Exit already)
-AGP Hard Pipes (Upp and Lower) ... Doing this since my Stock Pipes are old, beat to death from the FL heat
-Probably a Greddy RS/RZ BOV

Update 9/23/2011 - IAC Fixed

Post by dbesade » Fri Sep 23, 2011 9:21 pm

Well,

The car is now not stuttering when going from reverse to 1st. IAC was plugged and not moving properly. New one from MPx Resolved the issue. My RPM also does not hang when going from gear to idle like it was.

I should be getting some LEDs in soon. I can't wait.
