Well after a lot of trial and error, I was finally able to pull off a stable idle today. I ended up needed to add some timing in idle, and increase the pwm iac % during idle....sweet!

Driving around, I was able to use Tuner Studio's VE Analyze Live to start mapping down a nice table. I still need to determine if I need to upgrade past the 24lb/hr injectors. I was able to push her up to 7000 rpm once, but i have a lot of work to do on the table up there still.
Image

Then, when cruising on the highway on the way back (yeah I was going 70mph 40min after getting an idle), I blew a tire....I was able to maintain control, but it sucks...
Image
Image
Image

Redonkulous.....Plenty of tread left on the tires...decent pressure....I have no Idea what happened. There wasn't even a loud pop, just suddenly It started shaking/thumping and it started pulling hard to the left.

Well, I'm thinking I should ditch the rest of them and just get a new set. There's <40% tread left, but I don't trust em now. Budget performance tires ftl. (Nexen 3000).

Good to know you weren't going really fast or hitting a tight turn when that happened.

Thanks for the wishes guys.

I'm looking at some Kumho Ecsta XS 225/50R-16 right now. They look beastly.

A 225/50/16 tire would be about 25" tall. It'll kill your gearing, but they'll look mean. A 215/45/16 tire would be close to stock size, and still give you a good foot print.

I was running 225/45/R16 which is like the perfect size...barely anyone makes them though. Apparently when they do, they're shitty and blow out at 10,00miles lol.

The 215/45s are cheaper, maybe I look at those too. With the added grip of the compound, I could probably spare the 1cm width.

Edit:Link Yeah, that puts them at $96 instead of $109.

Those will be almost spot on with stock...I like it.

Plus, the 215's are 2lbs lighter per tire. 8lbs less in rotating mass would be good too!

I didn't initially mention the 215/45 size because I figured you'd want to stay with the wider tire. The Kumhos are a decent tire. It's what I'm currently running. I'm not thrilled with their Wet traction but having those Nexens before these you're going to think they're the greatest tire in the history of man.

I really wish I could get my Kumhos for under $100 a tire. I'm spending over $225 a tire for the 275/35ZR18 size. Not to mention this is my 3rd set of tires in 13 months.

Looks like the XS 215/45/16 are on backorder nationally....damn. Nowhere has them. Yeah, I can't wait to get a sticky tires. The nexens were a lot better than stock, but I can't stomach the thought of having another blowout like that. They were pretty amazin in the rain though. They still have the 225/50/r16 available though....hmm.

I'll go out and check...they should be on the sidewalls somewhere right?

Alright, I think I found some Toyo Poxes R1R 225/45/16 on sale for like $105...probably grabbing those. I still want to try the XS, but I can't wait 6 weeks for tires right now...they'll the next ones I try.

Yup, on the sidewall it should have the date, I think it's in wwyy format, like 0710 or something similar.

They ended up not having a visible/decipherable date on em.

Teaser pic! Cleaning the car up tomorrow, then time to nail down a tune, and take some more pics.

I was under the impression that all tires were required to have a date on them... interesting.

They are. Required by USDOT to my knowledge. And it will be formatted with the week and year of manufacture (ie 4006 will be the 40th week of 2006). But with the way that his tire blew, I can understand that it could be difficult to find/read the date code. I found this out the hard way when I was told the tires on my car when I bought it were almost 2 years older than the car itself  and had started to dry rot.

Speeder, they're Toyo Proxes R1R 225/45/16. I barely got to drive them yesterday though. One of the merge/turn lanes I take could easily make my old tires chirp if I was going 25-30; these guys bit in and held like no other.

Sean, I did see a number that ended with ****E02, but I figured a shop wouldn't sell 6 yr old tires to me. Regardless though, Edge Racing is now out of business, so maybe that says something about their practices.

Should have looked similar to this:

So this tire was made in the 8th week of 2006.

Yup still going to make it out! Just need to nail down a good tune... Thanks! You still a possibility on the meet John? Its so nice not to have to worry about having 2 sets of tires anymore.

I totally fubar'd myself yesterday on two counts. First I locked myself out after work, so I had to ride across town to my GF's work to get keys. lol. Then I decided to go tune my car some. I made a retarded change to the warmup enrichment table the previous drive that effected my ve table drastically. Long story short I flooded the engine and had to leave it on a side street for the night :tardbang: lol I felt so dumb...oh well Should get her running again after work today.

Big tires are so awesome....do it Chris! Yeah, I'm never getting Nexens again.

Luis - All is well bro. It was a dumb error. Everthing is back on track now

In there news, new leds for the cluster should be here today..I had a few wear out on me after 3 years. Also, I removed the backseat and got some fabric to rivet down over the exposed read paint...It'll look sweet when I'm done.

Took the car down to the car wash today. Cleaned her up and threw in some STG 0 srt injectors. This let me take the Req_Fuel down from 13.5 to 6....what a difference. Everything runs so much smoother....oh the freaking power! I'm betting I gained close to 15hp/tq under 4k. Tuning the upper RPMs soon.

ToDo List Before MPx Meet

*disclaimer* everthing is running fine now and I could go as is *disclaimer*

[..] Take rest of tint off fogs
[..] Retint fogs
[X] Take out back seats
[..] Rivet in Fabric (bought supplies)
[..] Swap in new LED cluster bulbs (still waiting on them)

[X] Wash Car
[..] Wax Car
[..] Interior Cleaning (vacuum get random tools out of trunk)

MS stuff
[X] Swap Injectors
[..] Nail down new VE table (1/2 way there)
[..] Mess with startup/Idle (long process to get perfect)
[..] Play with Ign advance and AFR
[..] Dial in 02 and IAC PID control
[..] Accel enrichments.
