Thanks guys...I'm hoping it'll be plenty for my end goals.

Yup, the oem stuff is going out after I've run the new setup for a few days. I'm debating what to do with the gas door. Not sure if I want to run a filler neck to the fuel cell, or just leave it.

Fuel install is put on hold till after this weekend. I'm studying for my FE exam on Friday :runaway: Then its time to Zombify and get fucked up!

Going to try a couple things this week to get my weird 7500rpm ghost rev limiter problem fixed. I'm thinking its AE kicking in. My mapDOT is all over the place.

Tie rod ends are going to get replaced soon too. Gotta get her track ready!

Lastly, I finally ordered a battery tray. For being laser cut, it was pretty cheap, and looks badaas.

I know you found the link Luis, but here it is for anyone else interested. http://bit.ly/bWnxk2

Argh. so much to do until the track day on the 20th.
  • Things to do to neon before Track day:
    - Install new tierod ends
    - Inspect ball joints and LCA bushings
    - Replace stuck capiler
    - Mount 1:1 FPR
    - Test fit fuel rail
    - Pre-fit hoses
    - Run filter line
    - Run main lines

    - Wire in launch control wire
    - Wire in new fuel pump relay (leave one side of coil ungrounded)
    - fix turn off by stall. Alternator backfeed.

    [Optional]
    - Change oil
    - Rotate Tires
    - Rear drape curtain?
New battery tray is on, and cell vent is hooked up. Found out that home depot has some nice cheap rubber gaskets.

Car is really coming along nicely dude. I really wonder what it would do in the 1/4 mile as it sits.

BTW, you must do an 03-05 rear, mopar lip kit, and a civic front lip, or else your shit's weaksauce, or something.

I would love to take it to the strip!! There's this abandoned airport we go to around here sometimes. We should def mark out a 1/4 on it. Really though, I need to do a few things after that list before I'm track legal.

I'm loosing out on my top speed w/o having lips...it's killing my drag coefficient

3 fixes this past week. I discovered I've been running w/o my secondaries working. A blown fuse fixed this.

New tie rod ends. Steering is awesome now.

New right rear caliper. Just threw it on today. The other original one from my disk swap was sticking and making this barking/honking sound that I could not stand anymore.

Probably not going to have the fuel system running in time. I was going to run the lines last weekend, but I realized I'm going to have to drop the existing tank to run them how I want. I'll need to dedicate a good day to finishing that up.

Here's a link to the track http://harrishillroad.com/

I used 4ga. Probably coulda went a little bigger to help during cranking though. I threw it back there 1-2 months ago? It made the engine bay look messy taking it out though lol. I need to clean up some wires and unneeded crap.

So, the track day was awesome! I was in the beginner heat out of 5. Was able to go out for 4 half hour sessions, 2 before and 2 after lunch. The day started out pretty foggy, so we had to wait for it to clear up.
Image
The first time out was pretty slow. My instructor drove the car for a few laps, and then I took a few. He was pretty impressed at how well the coilovers worked for my car.

The second time out went a lot better. I had taken a ride a boxter w/ slicks with my instructor....damn. That was intense. He had swapped Carrera brakes on the thing....dang it could stop. I was able to start hitting the lines through the corners pretty well this time out. There were a lot of bad habits I needed to break, but I was catching on fast. I started to notice a blue car catching up to me on the straights. I was destroying him on the corners though. Turns out it was a 911 Turbo. When the session ended, I pulled into the paddock area and my car stalled out...right in the entrance..crap!

Well we pushed her to my area, and I let her cool down. She was up to 200F. (I have a 180 stat). When it cooled ato 170 I was able to start it up again fine. That's when I found out that they found an alternator belt in 2 spots on the track.. Guess who's it was?
Image
Had to go to town and get a new one to throw on. Did a quick run around on the car. Looks like my front two center caps were gone! lol. I really only worried about them in Michigan to keep the salt and crap out of my hubs. Also, my EBC redstuff pads in the font turned yellow/gold.....crazy.
Image

During the lunch break I had quite a few people come up to my car and say they loved it. No neon haters here! Actually, everyone that showed up was either a n00b like me, or hardcore/seasoned racers. One of the flag workers came up and said he loved watching that round as I kicked the crap out of the 911 on the turns!

The third and 4th sessions went awesome. I really started zoning in on the right things to do, and started passing the mustang GT, and Audi RS4 in the heat. The Porsche eventually started getting better on the turns, so I didn't stand a chance lol. Here's his car.
Image

And some other pics of cars, I realized afterwards that I never even got a pic of my car!

lol right?

Here's the first sticker that's ever been put on my car....lol
Image

Did a quick test fit of th new rail when I was at the car wash. I also stripped more crap out of the back...dang, she's on a diet.
Image

I really want to clean up the engine bay some. I think that will be next after I'm done with the fuel system. There's a bunch of stock wiring that can be removed....just random things that will make it look better.

Nice pics dude. It looks barren under there now! I'll have to take some tomorrow of all the stuff we ripped off. It's ridiculous.

So I took a trip up to Ft Hood today, and Luis helped me "Get 'er done". Although we had to wait a while for a bay in the garage, we knocked her out in about 5 hr.

We removed the entire stock fuel system, including filler neck, evap system and tank. We were able to use the existing clips to help hold up the new lines we ran. Surprisingly, the only problem we had when we went to start it up was a FUBARd o-ring on one of the injectors. Swapped to a new one and bam!! I was amazed none of the hose ends I put on leaked; Never done those before.

I'm going to redo the fuel pump wiring later, I just hacked it together to get her running for now.

I still have a lot to do to the engine bay. So many lines and wires to clean up and remove; Its getting there though.

I'll grab some more pictures tomorrow when its light out again.

Very nice looking engine bay man. I've always wondered, so I have to ask (because I'm a noob to engine work )... but what is that analog dial on the fuel rail?

lol. Yeah, surprisingly the pressure was freaking spot on out of the box.

12-6-10

Sooo.....my clutch is pretty much toast. It's holding fine for normal (read: slow) driving, but she's starting to slip all the way through 1st when I hit it. It'll be next year before I replace it though. It strange having your tires be more sticky than your clutch.

Also, it seems that my Passenger's side door speaker is taking a shit. On top of that, my driver's side one is cutting out. I'm really considering yanking the system and using the headunit to make a radio cooler for tubing next summer. In place of the HU, I'd probably fab up a fiberglass plate to hold some gauges. (fuel gauge for sure).

So what's next you ask? Well here's the hitlist
  • Near Future
    Wrap up electrical issues
    - Need to install a diode in alternator wire from ASD to prevent power backfeed that's keeping the engine one w/o key
    - Need to splice in launch control wire
    - Tidy up fuel pump wiring
    - Tidy up ballast wiring

    Dieting
    - Might remove sound system.
    - Remove stock ECU (need to do a couple things to make this hapen)
    - Remove Power steering cooler. (loop lines at rack)
    - Remove heater core/ AC components under dash.

    Next Year
    Transmission Overhaul
    - ACT 6 puck clutch
    - ACT lightweight flywheel
    - Rebuilt OBS LSD
    - Find new battery tray mount and make shelf for it

    Turbo Build!
    - Yes, this is finally happening.
    - Going s256 or bigger
    - Doing custom IC piping
    - Already have mainfold and Wastegate.

I love this progress log. Looks like the track was a blast, it sure does eat up tires and brakes though. Swap the brake fluid out after the track day?

Fuel setup is absolutely amazing. Glad that AutoGear fuel rail is working good. Question, did you have to tap the holes for the open ports on top? I went to a hardware store and both metric and standard plugs didn't want to screw in too well.

Really makes me wish I lived in a warmer climate. Damn I hate the winter here.

Just let me know if you need me man, i'll make the trip down.

As far as clutch, is there anyway you could come up on a weekday? that way we would have the bay until 2000 instead of 1600...It'd be super easy with the bay if not we can do it in my drive way, it's up to you. its pretty much a whole day event.

I try to bring down the odp we talked about on friday, if i remember.

Manny - Dude me too!

Stephen - Thanks dude! I haven't yet swapped it yet (didn't have time this weekend). Def need to though. I'm surprised at how little noticeable tread wear I had from the event. The Proxes R1R have a 180 rating too! The front pads though....yeah.

I used these plugs for those holes LINK They're 1/8" NPT, so its a tapered thread. I'm super glad that I moved down here. Weather was one of the biggest factors!

Luis - Alright cool man. Yeah, it'll probably be late Jan - Feb when I get around to the tranny stuff. I need to figure out how hard it is to preload that LSD

Last pic of the crap we took off before pitching it.

She's on a Diet. A lot of extra unneeded stuff is coming out. I've been working on the interior for now, but I'll move to the engine eventually.

I thought these needed to come off....There's now way a kid would be safer back there with a fuel cell.

Great progress Chad; I would be lying if I said I was not a tad jealous of your recent track day. That is my ultimate goal for my car.. 1/4 mile not so much.
