Just got an 04 SE- adding auto locks/windows/mirrors?

Post by gcretro » Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:25 pm

Hey All, Just got an 2004 Neon SE (auto).

I was wondering what do I need to and the cheapest way to:

1. get power locks

2. then power windows (at least for front doors)

3. lastly power mirrors.

4. and Oh a cluster with tach!

Is my SE pre-wired for some of these?

Thx

Cheapest? Find a Neon equiped with the parts you want and pull everything from it. Since your car is not pre wired for it, you will need the dash and body harness as well.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Hmm... that's probably lot of work and messing around.

Whats plan B? I don't think I want key-less entry. Just power locks / central locks.

I saw some power lock kits online. Any one who has done this? What kit did you guys get.?

Sell it and buy a car with all the options you want.

It kind of does.

Some times its just easier and cheaper to buy the options already on the car, especially since the cars aren't new anymore.

Shop around. To be honest it can potentially be easier and cheaper to sell your car and find a good deal on a loaded one.

I don't think you realize the headache of swapping everything over.

I installed a SPAL 4 door power lock kit on my 00.. worked great. I had the added benefit of keyless entry by wiring it up to my already-installed remote starter.. but it works by default as a central lock when you lock/unlock one door all the doors do the same.

SPAL also has a power window kit, but i never installed it and don't know it's difficulty in doing so, but it includes everything you need.

here's a couple threads addressing the locks

power mirrors - get the mirrors and hook them into a power/ground somewhere, should be good to go

cluster with tach - find one for sale with the same mileage as yours, or buy one higher and wait until your car is at that mileage then swap the cluster..

Now this is a useful post. Thx. I don't plan to change the car or do a major swap etc.
Just wanted to add power/central locks, perhaps a cluster with Tach & be done.

Prolly a little more than you want to get involved with...

Trust me..

It is alot of work and unless you have everything matching and I mean everything from the same car, or else you will run into the same dam problems I'm going through.

It is a huge inconvenience to not have a car.

If you do insist on doing it, find a neon the same exact year as yours and grab all of these items:

Write down the vin number of the donor car<< very important!!
First thing I would do is find a car that has everything below and the matching chipped key ( it is gray) If it doesn't have the key keep searching until you find one with one and everything below...

Pcm
dash wiring harness
rear body harness
rke module
skim module ( if it has one)
all 4 power door latches
the two front power window regulators
The two power side mirrors
Two front door panels with the switches
ign key cylinder and all the others out of the car
all 4 door wiring harnesses.
rear veiw mirror harness and rear view mirror, if you want it..

have fun and you were warned...

Lets close this thread

All I want is simple pwr (rather central) locks. No key-less, No remote start nothing. Not even lock/unlock switches. Just something that locks/unlocks all doors.

So I'll get a simple central lock/unlock kit. When it came these pwr lock kits, there was a question about a "rod" based lock versus a cable based lock. Any thoughts on what 04 neon SE has?

My guess would be rod. They use a rod from the interior rocker and exterior key to actuate the lock on the latch.

just a related comment going back to the original post from the top... and maybe just trivia for gcretro...

you do know that NO 03-05 Neon ever came with power windows in the back... they are all hand cranks even on the loaded models... Chrysler money saver feature...

if you do find one, they are custom... they are do-able, but again... another big pain in the a$$

A member on here told me about how he did his windows.
So you can find the kit here. They are great with customer service and shipping was fast.

http://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemde ... ductID=427

(get the deluxe kit, it costs alittle more but is much quicker and very quiet)

for switches you could go with anything but i chose the illuminated push/pull

http://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemde ... ductID=164

over all it wasn't that difficult. the directions aren't the greatest so i installed it mostly by myself. i tapped into the 12+ of the cigarette lighter and i dremeled the switches into the center console and hooked the illumination to the orange illumination wire for the gear shift as i have a manual transmission.

the SPAL kit is the way to go then, in my opinion. it's pretty easy to install, just have to line up the actuator mount spots nicely to attach to the lock arm for a nice straight pull.. as mentioned i think in those threads i linked.

i was lucky to get mine on ebay for $30 or so, its a $60+ kit.

and actually, here you go.. about $47 shipped.
