Yeah....but I don't think ANY of the stronger "Neon" covers are good for 400hp, since their percentage of increase is over a pretty weak stock level.

We just need to take the dang car apart and see if the clutch has oil all over it or what.

First picture I've ever taken of the car with my D3000, and it's a doozy. Not.

Image

That's how it sits right now. Within the next two weeks:

-Remove rear mudflaps
-Remove trailer hitch
-Remove front bumper cover and SRT-4 intercooler
-Trim bumper cover to fit BFMIC

And hopefully: pull the clutch out

For the summer, the goals are:

-Fix clutch
-Complete installation of BFMIC
-Rear disc swap
-Full polish and wax

-DRIVE IT

I'm gonna drive it early Sunday morning... to make sure the pistons aren't seized yet. I don't have any mountain passes to go over, so the clutch should be fine.

I'm fine with removing the rear mudflaps. But the hitch is do dang handy. Especially when it is time to strap the car on the dyno. The hitch provides the world's handiest tie down points. Instead of removing the hitch, I would rather ADD a trailer brake controller. Okay... I admit. That was an attempt at humor...

As soon as I drive the car this Sunday morning, I'm putting it up on the "lift" (read "jack stands"). But it might be raining Sunday. I'll skip driving it if its raining...

-Trim bumper cover to fit BFMIC
Be sure to take some pics of this! It'll be handy for when I do mine in the future.

I can tell that photo #1 above is the one without flash. The car color looks funny in the fluorescent lights... Also, I can tell that we will need to modify the hood latch support to accommodate the larger intercooler. Shouldn't be a problem.. And, in case anyone is wondering, the tweek on the bottom, driver's side, of the SRT-4 intercooler was already there when Josh bought the SRT-4 parts.

Haha, well kinda. It's just sat in the garage on jackstands since last July when I posted the pics. I WANT to work on it...but wanting to and actually doing it seem to be completely different things at this point in life.

As far as the numbers go, yeah me too. Although I really don't care what it makes...I just want to have fun driving it and taking it out on the town. If it makes 320whp or 420whp, I personally don't care. It'll be fun to drive either way. Probably more fun with less power actually...not so much of a chore to keep the tires hooked up.

Perhaps when the home remodeling that we have both been doing is more complete, we can work on cars for fun again...

Obviously the majority of things in life will be prioritised above hobby's, and of course it would be great to see some progress but like you said you guys are busy. I personally can't wait to see some progress on this log again, i think you guys have helped a lot of people in the 2nd gen community.

Dave:
Yeah that is a good way of looking at it. 320whp isn't exactly poor though is it lol? I personally have it embedded in my head that achieving at least 400whp (as the end goal) would be great (no doubt easier said than done) but as I am in the UK seeing a neon is rare as it is but seeing one which is de-badged, boosted and has an SRT-4 conversion would seriously make people go "WTF is that?!" you would honestly have a better chance seeing an R34 GTR lol!!

No, 320whp would not be poor, lol. Although I'm pretty sure it already makes over 300 at 18psi with the TD04 (based on 270ish at only half throttle and 12psi) So with the 20g and 18psi.....it should theoretically make 400ish.

It's cool that you can build a "cheap" car like a Neon over there, and have it be extremely rare and cool. Shoot, Neon's are getting rare over here. Rarely see a nice one any more.

Yeah i noticed some really unfortunate neons on sites like cardomain etc. Yeah Chrysler never even imported any SRT4's over here :( so that is why it will have an instant wow factor when the conversion is done.

Makes sense to me.

Here's a new goody. It'll be ported to match the head, and probably ceramic coated.

Update, I worked on the car yesterday for the first time in many months. Now that we have the 20g updgrade, a lot more stuff needs to come off the car, so I just dove in. Before I got anything vital taken off, we went ahead and started it. Fired right up and ran smooth, which was nice to know since it hadn't been driven since last summer.

I'm going to port match the ASP manifold and smooth up the casting, and I'd like to get it ceramic coated. Dad and I also decided that we're going to have the LoneWold intake manifold modified.

Right now, the intake manifold is longer than it needs to be, and it kind of pinches the upper radiator hose fabrication we had to make for it to even work. You can kind of see it in this picture...

Image

We're going to have the end cut off at an angle, like this
Image

That should do two things: give us plenty of room for the upper hose, and also hopefully keep cylinder one from getting leaner than the rest.

Okey doke, I'll snap one next time I'm at the garage.

The intake for the new 20g is going to be a short ram style with the filter inside the engine room. Which leaves the left front fender space open, and I need to put a large coolant overflow tank in there. Any ideas on a factory tank from a different vehicle that would fit in there?

Nice to see your still working on this car. Love the engine bay.

On the coolant tank- I know Jegs has a overflow tank tey sell. Its just like the oil one but made for coolant. That's an option.cause I've looked at getting one of them for a while but still haven't . Just go on jegs wesbite and type in coolant catch can or overflow can.

Thanks for the tip Manny, but I'm talking a BIG tank. Josh had already welded up a custom tank to fit in the little pocket on the right fender....it's about the size of all the aftermarket tanks you can buy (like at Jegs). However, it's not big enough. For the drive from CO to MO, Josh just set a big ole honking tank from an old Chevy van in the engine bay (on top of the ecu relocation area).

I want to put a tank that hold about 1 gallon in the left fender well. So something tall(ish) and skinny(ish), preferably plastic...preferably an OEM piece from a different vehicle altogether.

Yes, we will bring it back to life, but everyone is going to have to be exactly as patient as those of us actually working (trying to find time to) on the car. Thanks for the encouragement though...!! It helps...

Dave and I just bought the ACT clutch from ZeroChad. So... currently still in "parts gathering" mode. "Working on the car" mode will come later after some other priorities are attended to...

Did work today, felt great..... hadn't worked on the car in a year. SRT turbo is off, test fitted the new 20g. The biggest job to do now is change the clutch, but that's not THAT big of a job. I just have to make time for working on it. Thanks Ozzieneon for the motivation to get the old stuff off (and sold! :))
