Chrysler Fiat?
Did Fiat buy out Chrysler or vise versua? Would this mean Fiat is apart of the MOPAR familiy? Because they're making I think a Fiat 500 or something that looks similar to it.

Spotted a red and black 500 on the road the other day. Hot little number, but it is small. Could probably fit it in the trunk of the avenger

Yes, the North American market Fiat 500 is being made at the Toluca, Mexico plant where the PT Cruiser was being built.DuhNeon179 wrote:...they're making I think a Fiat 500 or something that looks similar to it.

Yes, Fiat has controlling interest in Chrysler Group LLC. IIRC, the UAW, the governments of the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Canadian province of Ontario control the rest. Once the loans to the various government entities have been repaid (very shortly), there will be an IPO of Chrysler Group stock (and I plan to be a shareholder).

Isn't Fiat an Italian company?
If so, doesn't that mean that Chrysler is no longer an American company, based on the fact that their products are now being made by a foreign company?
If so, that means Gramps should sell his car as it's no longer an American car. I'll give you $2 for it.

Well in that case, it wasn't American to begin with.
Most Neons were produced during the DaimlerChrysler age So Gramps' car is technically German, ja?

C'mon guys, please don't break my ***** about this. As I've stated on 2GN before, Chrysler's survival is important to me due to the fact that my mother has a membership in that "legacy costs" group that the press always mentions (meaning that she is the beneficiary of the retirement benefits that my late father earned for spending 37 years of his life at the now defunct Chrysler Corporation). German-owned? Italian-owned? Certainly not of my choosing but however Chrysler survives is the most important issue for me.NickKo wrote:Waiting for David's response.
2GNs were already in the design phase before Daimler killed- excuse me... merged with Chrysler. IIRC, DCX (the company) was incorporated both in the state of Delaware and in Germany so it was (technically anyway) partially an American company. All 2GNs were built at Belvidere, IL in a UAW plant so that makes them about as American-made as you can get these days.DetergentCandy wrote:Most Neons were produced during the DaimlerChrysler age So Gramps' car is technically German, ja?
Yes, Fiat is an Italian company but has controlling interest only because of the various government entities that lent funds to keep Chrysler solvent. After the loans are paid back, the largest stakeholder after Fiat will be the UAW. Chrysler CEO Marchionne did once make an off-the-cuff remark about Fiat moving its headquarters to the US but quickly did damage control. But who knows? Things change quickly...

I'll say this again- pretty much the only reason why I wouldn't buy a 500 is because it is Mexican-made. If Fiat/Chrysler Group had decided to add an assembly line at Belvidere to manufacture it here (and if an SRT version appeared ), I would be interested.
And it would take a lot more than $2 to get my SRT.
