Trans finally blew
thought everyone would like to know my trans finally f**ked itself. i lost fourth gear right before winter hit up here and parked it since. i got about 100 more miles out of it before it died completely. I got a bunch of grinding sounds from the trans and a really bad smell. it grinds constantly i think a peice of the trans is all cought up inside. R/T trans comming soon so i hope.

yup. its stuck at clares for meow. they have a garage tho. stupid cps broke off in the engine, and i broke 3 more in the junkyard trying to remove them, anyone with advice on removing these from the 95-99's should let me know how to remove without breaking.

Exactly. As soon as you build boost you either start spinning, or you have to shift because of the shorter gears. More time spent out of power and shifting, than with a longer gear.NiteHawk wrote:Rt trans goes through gears faster...less time in boost...more stress on the transmission... a 3.55 is better suited for boost...

With him running MS, he can have a higher RPM range. Deal for deal, unless you're making high HP (400+) it wont matter if you run a 3.94 or 3.55.
Are you talking about removing the transmission speed sensor? You just have to dislodge it, and then carefully coax it out. The speedo gear is almost the same size as the hole it has to go through. Just go really slow.

new trans will be here tom. I got the old one off last night at 11. its not very fond of comming off that spool inside where the bearing sits.
I had a couple honda guys help me. Really nice guys suprisingly. Knew their stuff well. Except apparently our engine bays are a touch more friendly to work in than ours.

So Colt, the trans that blew up was the one out of my old car that you bought from me? As much as it sucks that it blew up, I'm actually impressed that a factory transmission with that many miles held up for so long, especially boosted.
How many miles did you put on it total? I'm just real curious how long it actually lasted.

Ok let me clarify for my own knowledge. I have an 02 SXt, get my turbo kit in this weekend. I plan on chanign my tanny. If I want a goo manual tranny for a turbo app I should get a 3.55? And this will bolt right up? If not what should i get for a tranny? I don't plan on doing a 2.4 swap, but just in case I change my mind will a 3.55 blot up to a 2.4? If someone could give me a good idea of what tranny to get I'd appreciate it.

3.94 doesn't create any problems. And good tires or not doesn't change the fact that you are shifting as soon as you get in boost. Honda guys have it a little easier because they don't shift till 9k.
If you have the power to pull it, more gear is usually better.

3.55 will help it stay in boost better.
Think of it like this:
More load = more boost. It is like the gearing is giving you a slight amount of brake boost.
A 2.4 will bolt up to the t350. Every N/A PT Cruiser has one. You just need a beefed up N/A PT clutch.

Yea but a stock internal motor 2.0 will only take so much high rev abuse.Fuzzyneon wrote:he also has MS though so stock limiters do not apply to thisheydockyle wrote:3.94 doesn't create any problems.
