Thoughts on SRT exhaust on SXT

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Thoughts on SRT exhaust on SXT

Post by HazmatJeff » Mon Jun 13, 2011 5:35 pm

So I found someone close to me (around half hour away) that is selling a complete SRT4 exhaust. He wants $100, but I thought I could offer him $80 for it.

Is this a good deal or am I getting railed? Also I read somewhere that the SRT exhaust doesn't provide the proper "back pressure" for the 2.0 engine Is this true? Would it matter after I bolted everything on?

I don't know about "proper back pressure", but your car will be too loud. The SRT-4's turbocharger dampens the sound, that's why they come from the factory with no muffler.

Stock SRT DB level is 93, so putting that exhaust on, without the turbo to quiet the noise, will be much higher.

Alright guys, thanks for the input. I won't be buying the exhaust then.

how the sound actually sounds is good or bad based on your liking and
opinion. the straight swap is loud and raspy, and if that's what you're
aiming for, then you're looking at the right exhaust.. i however did like
the sound, but not the loudness, so i welded a 32" cherry bomb glass
pack to the mid section of my exhaust. i like exactly where its at right
now. its a bit louder than a normal car, but not obnoxiously loud. the
sound then depends on how heavy your foot is and your rpm shift point.
i love my exhaust and its perfect the way it is. but yes, without the
glass pack, it will sound (in my opinion) obnoxious..

The ideal backpressure is always zero. There is no engine that requires backpressure.

I'm adding it to my "Things you should know" post.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
