Box intake for boost?

Post by OhNoA2.0 » Thu Jul 07, 2011 10:48 am

Would I be smarter to leave the butterflies in the Intake manifold when Im boosted to retain more low end torque or remove them for more overall flow?

Edit 7/26/11- Who makes quality/show intake manifolds for turbo apps?

Remove them, it'll help spool the turbo faster.

Get rid of them. In fact you would probably be better off selling the mag and getting a regular aluminum one. Less restriction in the plenum, a shorter runners.

1st gen plastic intakes flow better than the metal ones. However you can get a nice box intake made from a 1gn alum upper.

sure does.

They take a little while to get, and cost an arm and a leg though.
Best bet is to go on one of the forums and try to find one used. Not only do you save money, but you get it quicker

Neons.org has no control over his business. They may police his vendor thread, but mike is his own person. He's not a neons.org pawn. If you wanna order from him, do it. Just remember it will take a while. Quality, hand made parts take time

I can also have one made with a lot less lead time and similar cost to AMM. Hell, it wouldn't be that bad to do a group buy if I could find some cores.

Pawn or no pawn? This is how it normally goes with a someone that gets in over there head EJ. He owes a considerable amount of parts to people that have trusted him via his neons.org "vendor" forum. He won't respond to us at neons.org to even give any kind of status update on what he owes. He clearly wrote that he needed to sell some things to be able to catch up on what he's already been paid for.

Feel like rolling the dice? Go ahead, send him money. I wouldn't send him a plug nickle for parts right now. To cut up and make an intake like that does not take months. It could easily take hours if you are doing it right.

This is true, he has indeed made enough of them to know how to do it pretty quick. From my readings it was sounding like he was taking about a month per manifold and just had a lot of orders to catch up with. I guess I was wrong. If he's months behind on everything, he needs to re-evaluate if he has the time to continue. He can't be affraid to say no. I had parts for sale at one point but didn't/dont have enough time to devote to it. Maybe he's just too nice? Or maybe he's just money hungry? The world may never know

I dont want to really add to the AMM topic, but my brothers intake was payed for last November under the instruction that I needed it before Carlisle. My brother just received the manifold yesterday
I personally never had a problem with AMM when I got my intake years ago, but I think right now he is just in over his head....
