Well, Serenity finally runs again!
I was at my parent's until 2:00 am. Totally worth it.
Sadly the video I took of the start up might be corrupt
It sounded so nice!
Zero miles >:3
Also, if you don't have the right tool, then make one!
Ace Hardware + welder = pulley installer. /Engineering
Tranny fluid is ATF+4. I didn't add the friction modifier. Partly because dealerships were closed today and I didn't want to wait.. But mostly because there seems to be a 50/50 split on the SRT forums on whether the modifier is needed or not. Some say ATF+4 is fine to run alone. Others say if the manual says to use it then you should use it.
I chose not to. I can always add it later.
Coolant is Prestone Extended Life. It's green, not gold/orange. It says it's good for ALL makes and models. So for right now, that's good enough. I could not find the special Chrysler coolant anywhere O.o
Oil is Mobil 1 10w30
Only things left are wheels and brakes, and front fascia.
Then I can give it a bath and get it aligned
I'll be driving it tomorrow <3
I can't believe it's been 2 months.

Still recovering from the rebuild. I gotta be careful what I spend my money on for the next month. Otherwise i'd swipe it from you.
Lemme get it aligned first. And washed. It's so dirty! I'm embarrassed.Duuuuuuude, i want a ride
Nice rad pipe too
I was tempted to christen it with champagne after the first start-up

1. Get rid of the green coolant, it's not good for D/C/J vehicles. It's too corrosive and chunks up. Get orange from the dealer and swap it out as soon as you're able.
2. 5w30 full syn oil, not 10w30
3. Add the FM to the ATF if you're going to use ATF. I have 127k on my trans internals with not one issue thus far. It has to be doing something right.

Well...looks come with a price I guess. My Home Depot radiator hose failed last night
Saw my temp creep higher and higher and higher and I was like "O_O That's not right."
I patched it up and got some more coolant in there to get me back home, but i'm not gonna trust that hard pipe again. Picking up a new hose today and swapping it out. I may try the hard pipe again later down the road...but for now i'm ditching it.
LSP:
1. Considering i'm gonna be draining a little coolant to change the hose anyways, I'll just drain it all and change it to the orange stuff.
2. Currently running 5w30 conventional. I swapped the 10w30 synthetic last night for 5w30 dino cause I was told you never want to run synth during break-in.
3. I'm considering picking up the FM now since i've been having trouble shifting into second gear on deceleration.

I'm not giving up completely. I'm just getting a replacement rubber hose for now so I can start driving it again
I'm pretty sure I tightened the clamps on the hard pipe too tightly and bent the end of the pipe in which gave the coolant enough passage to burst out. It was definitely my fault. This wasn't just a freak occurance. I'll make another one at some point. I just want it running right now ^^

Cliffnotes: Dexcool is a marketing exercise and is no better from a performance stand point than standard green coolant. Plus its cheaper and easier to get a 2am when you're most likely to need it.
I have over 100,000mi on various 2.0s and 2.4s with standard green coolant. DexCool and whatever Chrysler calls it is (ethylene glycol base) IS NOT a good thing it was devloped by Havoline and put into production cars for 4 reasons
1. Long shelf life.
2. Biodegradable in its unused state
3. Lacks Nitrites, borate, and, phosphate (less danger in ingesting small amounts)
4. 100,000mi + service life
None of these things are a performance advantage. Dexcool has been blamed for most GM headgasket issues over the years (northstar and quad4) Ford has had its share of issues with ethylene gold (Ford's branding for ethylene glycol) in the powerstroke and duratec engines.
Mixing dissimilar metals (Alumnium/Steel/Iron in the case of our engines) in an alkaline solution is going to cause corrosion of the softest metal (the head) The only way to stop this is to get as close to a neutral solution as possible I use a 40/60 blend of green coolant and DISTILLED water
5w30 is recomended that said multiweight oil (Xw-XX) is only the first number when its very cold. If its ever very cold in Phoenix change to 5w30 if not youre probably fine.
DO NOT ADD FRICTION MODIFIER it was added before any testing was done to make the quaffe diff quieter. Of course the quaffe and every other worm gear LSD shares nothing with the clutch type LSDs that Americans are used to and doesnt really make noise except for a faint gear whine when it has a heavy load (think full throttle and full stearing lock on a wet surface)
The friction modifier does one thing very well, it ruins ATF+4 there is a reason you are suppost to change every 18,000mi. I use Pennzoil synchromesh mixed 12:1 with Lucas oil stabilizer and half a bottle of eastwood ZDDP (zinc additive) Straight Snychromesh in a trans that isnt abused like mine is would be fine.
Chrysler built these 20,000 specialized cars on the same line at the same time that they built 300,000 very normal cars, many consessions were made to make is easier on the assembly line people the factory ATF+4 fill is one of them.

I'm on track, Crystal
I changed the coolant over to the right stuff and added the fm.
Serenity is running beautifully. Fluids are level and temperatures are normal.
I'm pretty much paranoid every time I drive it, always smelling for smells and looking for smoke and listening for bad noises. It's an adventure

For your shifter...a little tidbit to help line it up. Take off your center console and with the shifter in neutral on the driver's side you'll see a 10mm (I think if I remember right) nut facing you on the cross cable. Loosen this nut a bit but don't remove it, you'll see that it is adjustable. Put the shifter in third gear and re-tighten it.
That is your best alignment

^^True story.
Already have the tranny bushings on. Was gonna do the shifter bushings at a later date, but I may as well do it now while I adjust the cable
The whole coolant exploding all over my engine is a huge bummer. The paint on my vc and intake mani didn't handle being splashed with coolant very well :/ They look like poo now
So I had a little free time at work. Decided I didn't want the shitty Autozone shift knob anymore. Made my own.

I work with urethane plastics at work. And I have access to a 3D printer.
Friend of mine 3D sculpted it.
We printed it.
Made a mold.
And I poured a shift knob :3
Do you know who it is? >.>

Installed my Boogers and adjusted my cable!
Definitely an improvement!
I completely forgot I still have Blackula's trunk-lid carpet.
I removed it when I took the spoiler off and just never put it back on.
So...yay! I have carpeting :3
And I picked up a fire extinguisher! I'm not gonna lose Serenity after all the work I did.
