A nod to the new style Dodge grills / New rear bumper.

Post by abarguy » Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:39 pm

So, as I was looking at the newer cars one day, I thought how good my Neon would look with a style update similar to the new black crosshair grills. And since my Neon is a real R/T, I figured the R/T grill emblem would work, too!
Tell me what you think.

And, just because I'm a reflective tape junkie, I did it in black 3M reflective tape.

Sweet!

That looks pretty nice actually and I love the reflective tape. Bitch to get off though without soaking the glue with lighter fluid.

Looks nice, though, almost factory.

like it during the day and I like the r/t badge and placement... not a fan of the reflective part at night though.

Wow man that looks nice. I'm not a fan of the 03 and up front bumpers, but that really improves on it. Good work.

Hhmm..

You could technically do that on any SRT crosshairs as well. Kind of like a new more tasteful way of doing crosshair blackout.

I like it without the reflective part. Looks kinda cheap in the dark.

Sweet... I think the reflective would be nice at night, people coming towards you will be like why is that guys grill all lit up? and ya Uriah, thats a good ideal on the SRT4 cross-hairs. May have to try it.

I get that. It was meant for looks in the daylight. The bonus was the added safety at night. Win; win!

So throw some electrical tape on those sweet electric blue crosshairs and post up some pics yo. Cheap, temporary, and honestly it's growing on me, the look is much much more modern than the usual full crosshair blackout.

LOL! My buddy Speed127 wanted me to do them in black carbon fiber Di-noc. And I did think about it. He Di-noc's everything! J/K!

Tonight he suggested that I take a pic at night with my headlights on. Says it would have looked a lot better posted that way. I'll take it tomorrow night and see what it looks like.

OK, took the pic at night with the lights all on like Speed127 suggested. He's right. It would have presented better this way.
This is what oncoming cars will see.

OK, now I'll leave you all alone!

And thanks all for the good feedback on this simple mod.

Haha I forget how cross-eyed Neons look. Best mods on this car: gunmetal stones and BUX fender repeaters.

The worst part of the car was now the rear bumper. Stock 03 R/T bumper with a couple of dents in the bumper "boobies" and a long crack in the shelf at the trunk lid. I was going to heat and reshape it then weld in the crack but I kept my eye out for a good SRT4 bumper instead. I finally found one a few months ago that was already silver like my R/T, so cha ching: No need to paint it!

Image

Ugly crack in need of some love.

Image

OK, I really never liked the bumper boobies anyway...

Image

...so off it comes!

Image

Looks like the spacing of the stock R/T exhaust tips is a bit different than the SRT4 exhaust tips. Get the sawzall out!

Image

A little cutting, piecing and welding later and viola!

Image

Nicely centered, tips not too far out. A poor-feshinul job all around!
Next some nicer tips! I got my eye on a pair of AMG oval polished stainless tips on e-Bay! :D

I think those tips look great in there, as a neon owner I would know that those where R/T tips, but a normal person wouldn't. Looking good!

Where are you? Midwest someplace? If you were close, I'd give it to you. Otherwise, I still may clean it up, weld the crack, and put it in stock. No way would I wanna try shipping it.
