03 SOHC Computer??

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

03 SOHC Computer??

ok, its not exactly what normal people would do but im trying to see what the max is i can get out of a sohc engine :twisted: . i know its not cost effective but i have a machine shop at my disposal :rockon: so no cost there. but now the important part. the 03 neons are very limited by their engine management compute :banghead: r. im doing everything bolt on first then going internals and such, the head has already been decked .030 and a crane 12 is on its way. what is a computer i can get that i can work with for later as i get into the block. and possibly replace head for turbo app. need something open to reprogramming. not really looking for a mega squirt system though. any other sugestions?

Megasquirt or AEM FIC. There about your only options. There's not really any plug and play computer out there for Neons. I know a member here was experimenting with a SRT4 computer on a sohc. Their PCMs are flashable using Diablosport tuners. I don't know what has to be done to use that PCM though.

hmm, i have heard about a cross between the sohc and srt4 but never heard how it turned out or if it worked. thanks. ill be looking into the aem ones for sure.

aem fic is pretty much just aem's version of MS. i guess you could go with emanage as well. to put it simply though, MS is probably your best option as there are tons of people running it and there's a large support base

Yea I would prolly just go with MS. Erick at ASP can get it tuned for ya!

When you put these three things together nothing makes sense. if your trying to max out a sohc and have a machine shop why did you buy a crane 12 cam and not make one that would provide much better gains and is more tailored to what your looking for?

Just slightly more user friendly.

But any DCX PCM has it's limits as to what it will let you get away with. They were designed with passing emissions and reasonable fuel economy as the primary objective. Not tuning...

While boost was not in his plans, this is an example of what you are looking at to find the limits of a SOHC.
Most of the pics are gone now, but you'll get the idea.

I doubt you're going to see much benefit going full standalone with a 12. You could run a piggy back system to pull/add fuel here and there, but I doubt messing with ignition tables is going to be worth the effort.

im not much into the math of cam rotation yet, im in school and we have a full shop that i can use as needed. so head work and such will be first but im afraid i havent learnd much about cam duration. figured it would be easier to buy a cam rather then continusly mess up with incorect calculations. or worse mess up the car. college kid no spare car lol.

that has nothing to do with running a computer. most, if not all, of the computers that you can use go off of a crank signal, not cam signal

For the price of a Apex AFC an MS can be bought or built and installed.

I'm well aware, having built and installed my own. However, even with MS he could just do fuel control and save money w/o ignition drivers.

I have a srt-4 pcm swap in my 03 sohc 2.0 R/t. More expensive than megasquirt but you can pass inspection without problems.
