Looking at an srt-4 that may be a clone.
Looking at an srt-4 that may be a clone.
I saw an ad on craigs list for an srt-4 for $5000. This is a bit low so I am going to pick it apart. pics revealed a lot of red flags like the hood is black primer, the steering wheel has been replaced with a sparco, the front bumper is not OEM but from an after market kit ( I forget which one but I am not crazy about it.) and the stock srt rims have been replaced with cheap alloys which may or may not be smaller in size. The interior is %100 srt-4 however (from what I can see so far) I'm thinking this car has been hit or may be a clone. Where can I find the vin on the engine to check if it is the same as the vin on the car? Any ideas on what I should look for besides the vin to see if it is a clone? what should I check for signs of being in an accident? what common engine / tranny issues should I look for?

1. Ask the seller if this is an original SRT.
2. go about checking the car like you would any other

Did you see this one? Less than an hour away from NYC.

Supposedly stock- that would certainly catch my eye.

every srt vin has the numbers S66S in the vin.
check that vin with the vin in the trunk of the car and on the door sticker

That's sweet but out of my price range. The only reason I'm looking at this car is because it looks like a good deal, the seller is motivated and is supposedly the original owner. all these little things I see wrong with it can only work in my favor as far as price goes.

Seriously? For $300 more, you could drive an hour to NJ and get the SRT in the link I posted or drive to IL for this one.bobneon2k wrote:how about this one on ebay...

Not trying to be a jerk but the SRT is a bargain.

why...? It's not an SRT, and the entire car is too dated. I know there was a lot of work put into it and it's a show car that has probably won awards. IDGAF.bobneon2k wrote: how about this one on ebay...
