Roommates pt.2

Post by Kelevra » Thu Mar 07, 2013 9:53 pm

Ok, so if you remember my last thread.. you'll remember my issue. Since then it's had it's ups and downs and I've given it a fair chance but recently my dad (who's 78, now) came to me and said he needed help, that he's hurting for money and he's not been doing so great without me being there to help with everything. This REALLY got to me because I know for my dad to reach out for help like that took a lot for him to do because he's normally very strong and I feel that it's my responsibility to take care of him and myself before anything else. His health isn't failing (to my immediate knowledge) and he's not on his death bed but I feel like I need to be there for him more than here in a apt. I am not happy being in.

After he came to me, I told my roommates to look for another roommate to replace me on Feb. 28th and that I will stay as long as I feel as I am able to. Well, that time has come and I told them I will pay my rent for the next month but come the first I feel like I need to be there for my father. despite having more than 30 days notice they're still pissed wondering where they're going to come up with the rent money to the point of threatening our friendship I feel bad for them, I do, but I have other things to worry about.

am I wrong for wanting to do what I feel I need to do for my dad or are they in the wrong for threatening a friendship over me moving out?

This is what I know as well.. but they're still pissed thinking the help my dad needs is only financial. I need to be THERE for him. not just visit him. I feel like he needs someone around, someone to talk to.. not only that but he is up there in age. if he needs help I want to be there for him. I feel so helpless when I'm not.

Def not in the wrong.. Take care of urself and ur dad. If they don't understand that's what u needed to do, then let their friendship go with the apt. Make the right choice for u!

You gave adequate notice and you have a valid reason for leaving so there should be no guilt on your part. Your roomies need to get over feeling butthurt. :-({|=

Family comes first. If you gave them a 30 day notice, it's not your fault.

In my opinion some people wouldnt even give a 30 day notice.....family always comes first.

Family gets you through your life
Friends are the good company in your life
Family is there from the start to end
How many friends have we all gone through?

Dont feel bad man, do what you gotta do.

Thanks guys, your backing and support has really helped me out and I will be leaving the first (if not sooner) but the rent will be paid before I leave. You're right about them not being the best of friends and they've shown their true colors in this matter. All I am to them is an ATM for my portion of rent. They care more about the rent money than me being happy and me taking care of my Father.

I've made the mistake of letting friends and an ex fiance take me away from my family for a couple years.

The guilt involved is something I will never get over. Do what you know is best, and take care of your family.

It is very impressive that you are doing this for your father, and if your friends don't care, then yeah, they're assholes. Roommates are a dime a dozen; they should have no problem finding one.

You have just one dad.
