Lack of air powered tools
Lack of air powered tools
So I'm changing the springs of my SE for those from an SRT-4 ACR, and I'm doing it with wrenches, ratchets, and other hand tools. And no breaker bar. Crazy rusted bolts too. My arms are about to fall off, been at this for three days from letting PB blaster soak and such. I have three done, though.
Totally worth it and insanely fun, though. I feel like an air tool would take some of the fun out of it.

Re: Lack of air powered tools
you say that until you get some and you can turn a whole day job in to a 30-40 min job and spend more time driving than wrenchingSkitlz wrote:I feel like an air tool would take some of the fun out of it.

I dunno, I'm in no rush to finish things like this. I feel like air tools are cheating. haha Not to say I won't eventually invest in some, but there is something to be said about doing things by hand.
BTW I'm done with the springs and I pretty much shot a load in my pants when I went around my first corner.

Amen, I get more enjoyment out of FINISHING the job and driving than I do the actual work, well, in most cases anyway.stdlystdmufn wrote:you say that until you get some and you can turn a whole day job in to a 30-40 min job and spend more time driving than wrenchingSkitlz wrote:I feel like an air tool would take some of the fun out of it.

I got tired of trying to break bolts loose with a breaker bar, or having my arms tired at work, or breaking bolts because of the breaker bar and a pipe. Don't have money for air tools, but I love my electric impact gun, it really helps.
So many neons so little time.

Go to a performance shop for best deal. $100 flat is what they charge at RevLine here in KC. Don't want to eat those tires up.Skitlz wrote:Oh aff I didn't even think of that. What's an alignment run?
Hmmm a electric gun would be nice....specially if its strong enough.

If you don't have power tools.... AT LEAST have a breaker bar handy.Skitlz wrote: And no breaker bar.
I know that it is a 'no-no' to use 'Cheater bars', but I have several that I keep in my toolboxes, too.
They come in handy sometimes - Just use some common sense so you don't slip and kill yourself using them.

Is it really pressing that I get this thing aligned? I'm broke for some time.MyNeonSaysHi wrote: Go to a performance shop for best deal. $100 flat is what they charge at RevLine here in KC. Don't want to eat those tires up.

I just got a garage 18 miles north of my house just for a place to have my compressor and tools so I don't have to use hand tools any more. Land owner won't let me plumb the garage with "high voltage" since my contract doesn't include the garage. My Chicago Pneumatic 7749 makes struts and springs so much easier!

^ i wouldn't say that, i do it for a living which means at work i have a great set of air tools but at home i don't have a compressor so even though i have thousands in tools i can't use them at home. something i did that might fit your budget a little better is i bought an ingersoll rand 3/8" electric impact and it did everything during my engine swap but the crank pulley bolt
