I'm gonna be starting my job in June after graduation, and I plan on getting a new car this summer or fall. I can't help but want this car. I've wanted boost for so long, and I'm disappointed that I'm not going to see a faster Dart. So this is the direction I'm heading.

I guess I haven't 100% made up my mind, but I am really liking what I'm reading about this car, and I really want to get a NEW car this year. And I'm ready for a car that actually has some balls, but it's gotta be 4/5 doors, and I want to get over 30mpg highway.

I still get a kick out of how these dealers love padding the "Options" list (Ad in link) with things that have been standard features for decades now. Just try and get the car without a rear seat, or intermittent wipers, AM/FM radio etc, for that matter.
But I have to give them credit, as they didn't go as overboard as most do. Most of the things listed aren't standard features, yet. - Just lumped into package deals that are largely unavoidable, unless you want to pay more for a less optioned special order car.

look around, I have been browsing them too and you can find them around 24K. But id wait if you can for the 2014 fiesta ST. its going to be above 200hp and better gas mileage. Plus they make freakin rally kits for it so the aftermarket is huge. Overall the bottom line will be a lot less too. Probably $18-22K
BTW for 14K i did find an ACR srt4 on autotrader with only 32,000miles and bone stock in OH.

1) A LOT of experience with this chassis
2) A GREAT forum with awesome dudes and lots of knowledge available
and with minimal modification it's going to be around the same in power...
I think I'll start saving for the SRT.
Thanks for talking me out of it guys!!!!!

I can see that both ways. I kind of agree with ragek23, I would have a hard time turning a wrench on a nice ACR like that one just because of what it is.
However, at one point I thought the same thing about my SRT-D, thinking "oh, hey, this one's a little more rare than the rest. I should keep it stock... "
Didn't last as we see...

First of all ... no Neon is a collectible ... it's a cult carejclide wrote:I can see that both ways. I kind of agree with ragek23, I would have a hard time turning a wrench on a nice ACR like that one just because of what it is.

Secondly ... owning an SRT-4 will keep you from ever enjoying a normal Neon ever again
Finally ... once you own an SRT-4 you'll always want more performance, and since you can't afford a Porsche 911 Turbo, you'll be forced to buy things
from the wonderful selection of aftermarket goodies available

*sigh*
Almost no Neon is collectable. There's no way that applies to the SRT-4, and especially not to the SRT-4 ACR. In time, they're going to be. But I've said that before.
As far as modifications go, everything I've decided to do I can UN-do down the line. So what if you modify it? Returning a car to stock isn't hard if you haven't gone crazy, and you don't really have to go crazy with the SRT-4 to get some good power increases.
The chassis is timeless in appearance, and the SRT accents really do set it apart from the rest of the Neon pack. Nobody mistakes my SRT-4 for a normal Neon. Even the car-ignorant ask me about it. Chrysler took painstaking efforts to give it a distinctive "tuner" look, which is why most SRT-4 owners don't even bother to modify the exterior much or at all.
HOWEVER...
The Focus ST is pretty damn sweet. I don't care about cars at higher price ranges because I've always been a fan of the underdog. And the ST will come with a WARRANTY, which is a big deal. And basically, no wear and tear. And... let's not forget that of the last decade or so, Ford's build quality has been outstanding. That's not something I admit lightly, because for many years I've disliked Ford cars and trucks.
So make of it what you will. I'm with Gramps, get an SRT is my suggestion, but it's more because the car is familiar to you, the price is right, the knowledge base is well well well established, and let's face it, the SRT-4 has a lot more character than the new Focus ST does.

Also instead of the Focus or SRT-4, just get an R/T and turbo the fuck out of it with the leftover cash.

Who knows if that's true.
As for new cars only, it would be hard to convince you onto another car. But as a few others have said, there are some great cars under 30k slightly used. Could get a SRT charger or something similar. Could get a new Grand Cherokee or wrangler if you went that route as well.

I agree. I think the focus ST and soon to be fiesta ST are the last of the neon like breed. somewhat light, nimble, FWD, a great DD, and really good gas mileage to boot. Its the las american car to hold this ideaology right now. I mean yeah we have the dart but lets be honest. Take the dart to an autox track and its like racing a buick lesabre compared to the focust st. If you want somethign new and "neon-like" save up for an ST.
Not to mention they take quite a beating I found out first hand:
