02 se atx to mtx swap problem

Post by 2.34g63 » Thu May 09, 2013 5:04 pm

I have a 02 se that the atx went out on.so I went to the salvage yard and got everything to swap it from a 00. I have everything mechanically swapped and finished but I cannot get it to start. I have read about the three wire plug for the neutral safety switch but mine doesn't seem to have this three wire plug. Just looking for some info on what needs to be wired where. I believe I have the jtec style if that helps. Any input old be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have an '01/'02 MTX pcm?

The park neutral saftey switch will need to be wired to the clutch interlock switch. The reverse lights will need to be re wired to the reverse switch on the MTX.

So you put a cable clutch in an '02?

Yeah I got everything from the 00 for 100 bucks from the u pull it yard. I don't have the ecu. I wasn't 100% sure I needed it.I'll have to get one.the clutch switch has three wires on it. ones the ground, ones the power, and one is the signal to the ecu?

Find the brown/ yellow wire running to the old auto trans connector, ground that, car will start without clutch switch though! I did the same swap, 02 le, to 00 clutch mtx, so i shouls be able to help you with wiring it up

There's a switch, and you have to ground it out, then unground it later on so the car will rev past 4K rpm's. It's going to be the neutral safety switch.

Grounded the brown and yellow wire runs decent but hits the 4k rev limiter. Also the speedo doesn't work. Can I bypass these things or do I need to get a mtx ecu? If I do need a mtx ecu can I get one for a non imobiler even though my car initially has the imobiler with the grey key that way I wouldn't have to take it to the dealer?

when you swapped in the mtx trans, did you find the speedo plug, strapped to the back of the engine block with a false plug, connected to it? my car had the proper plug, but i needed to run splice into the white/orange wire, and run that to the pcm, speed sensor signal pin. My atx wiring harness had the white/orange wire end at the firewall connectors, behind the battery. Adding a piece of wire from there, back to pin 66 at the pcm(black plug) will get the speedo working.

For the saftey switch, did you say you had the proper switch or that you still needed it. If You have the switch, Grounding the black wire, and connecting the yellow/brown, to a wire running back to pin 76 (PCM) will get that working for you, when you push the pedal to the floor, the car will start and have a 4k rev limit(works well for launching lol) and then when you let up off the clutch you'll have full 6250rpm limit. Hope this helps.

Even if you do swap to a mtx pcm, you will need to make these wiring changes, unless you snag the whole wire harness too.
If you decide to snag a Mtx pcm, Grab the same cars key reader, ignition key, and ignition key cylinder, and just swap it all into your car, no dealership vin flashing or new keys needed. You will just have a different key for your door, and ignition.

What color is the wire. For pin 66 on the ecu? Is that white and orange also? I got the clutch working just no Speedo but I'm not sure I hooked the Speedo wires up right

Yep you just need to run a wire from white/orange pin 66 at pcm, to the white orange wire where it ends up at the two connectors behind the battery. White orange runs up from the speed sensor but ends there.

You're going to have to wire in some sort of switch for the neutral safety switch so when it's grounded, the car starts, and once started turn it off so it'll rev to the limiter.

This is all good information, which hasn't been very clear until now. I'm out of school as of next week and I'll be manual trans swapping my (currently) ATX 2000 SE. So I'll have to do this same stuff.

Going from the 31th ATX will be easier, as far as the speedo hook up. You just need to move the connector over about 6 inches.

Anyone feel free to pm me if you have more specific questions regarding the swap, id be happy to help other 2gners pull this off. It was fairly easy and a good learning experience, plus you will love your car that much more once you are finished.
