2002 ACR (1 of 31) Sold!

Post by Danteneon » Mon Jun 17, 2013 6:26 pm

2002 Dodge Neon ACR
1 of 31 white A/C equipped cars made.
121,xxx miles
$6,500

The time has come ladies and gentlemen. The Neon is sitting far more than driving these past few years, so it it time to pass the torch. This is a long post and I will update it over the next few days with additional info. For pictures, please see my build thread Here

Sold!

Below is the rest of the post for archive sake...

This Neon has had nearly every part on it replaced or upgraded while I have owned it. All work has been done by myself and my friends. You will not find a turn-key track-ready daily driver this well maintained for this little money. I'm not looking to make a ton of money on it, just to pay off the loan and have a couple of bucks to put into the house.

Below is a breif run-down of the current state of the Neon.

The good:

This car is cleaner than many show cars. Has been garage kept for the last 5 years. The undercarriage gets wiped down every time I am under it. It has not been driven in rain or snow in the last 3 years, and before that only rarely.

Car has had less than 5K miles put on it since 2008. Since that time it has had many new parts put on it. My project log has everything listed, but for the sake of time...

Timing belt
Water pump
Drive belt
Upper gasket set
Clutch
Brake pads and rotors
Front and rear wheel hub and bearings
Rack and pinion
Outer tie rod (just one)
Almost every suspension part
Battery

The Bad:

Every car has some flaws, and this one is no exception.

Original paint...there is some crazing in the clearcoat that can only be addressed with replacing the clearcoat.

There are some rock chips here and there, but not as many as you would think. The hood was replaced with one from a 2005 SRT back in 2008

Minor dents on the drivers side front and rear doors. None on the passenger side for some reason.

Cracked paint around the rear wheel house arches. This one I'm responsible for. I didn't roll the 1/4 panels correctly and I broke the paint. To be fixed right, the 1/4 panels will need to be painted or blended. It can be fixed with less work, but I wouldn't do it that way.

Rust bubble is just starting to form on the drivers side dog leg. Good excuse to repair the 1/4 panel paint cracking at the same time.

The dash pad is flaking on the passenger side. I don't know why it is, but the top layer of color is coming off near the A-pillar.

The top of the drivers side door panel has a whitish discoloration to it. It has been like that since I bought it. No idea what caused it, and I haven't come across a good enough replacement to put one there.

The windshield has a few rock chips in it. All but one have been there since I bought the car back in 2004 and none have been a problem for yearly VA safety inspections. Still, I had it on the list to replace it.

If you want A/C, you will have to re-install the components. I kept all the items needed to put A/C back into this car some day. All parts will need to be flushed first of course. When it was removed, the A/C blew ice cold.

Car has no exterior antenna, but I have that part as well.

Depending on your local state's laws, you may need to put OE tail lamps (the ones on the car are clear with red LEDs) and change the color of the bulbs from white to amber in the front. I have been running these for years, but I also have it inspected at my dealership, so yeah.

If you want airbags, you will have to install them. The system is intact, so if airbags are desired they can just be mounted and plugged in. I no longer have them.

The Walker Super Turbo muffler is rusting, but it is easily replaced.

Mods

Interior:

SRT seats front and rear

SRT pedal set (full pedals, not just covers)

Sorry guys :(

An idea I'm kicking around is parting out the unique items off the car provided that I have good stock parts to replace them with. So, that being said, keep your eyes open for a part out/extra parts sale thread in a day or two.

Also, the more that the ACR is put back to stock, the less expensive it will be. If the car can be put mostly to stock, the price could drop as low as $4800

My SRT has seen the Spring day light once so far this year and I still won't consider selling it.

Are you sure you really want to do this? :(

My car has been out of the garage twice so far this year and (counting Carlisle) will probably be driven at least four more times before winter slumber, a total of six times for the year.

Sure? No, not at all. I will more than likely regret sell her forever. But here is what I'm looking at...

Saving $235 a month, and $155 a year plus whatever money I decide to spend on mods for a car I drive maybe 10 miles a year (not counting Carlisle).

Freeing up my garage for my Outback which I drive everyday.

Reducing my car projects to one. I can really only afford one car to own and mod right now.

Without getting into specifics, I am working with quite a bit less household income than I was 6 months ago. I need to trim things back and my "toy" is the logical choice.

Are you not worried about things breaking and rusting because you do not drive it often enough anymore?

Bought my '01 ACR fall of '09. Put about 1300 miles on it since then, including the drive home to WI from Evansville IN. Just turned over 79k.

I'm dealing with the same situation myself, and it's a painful decision.

there are ways to earn money to pay for the car without actually working, have you considered donating sperm? all you have to do is spill your seed in a cup and you get paid.......
