I thought the stock tweeters were 2 3/4", I know you can fit 3.5"s in though.

If you're going to upgrade and do it right, buy a set of components (mids & tweets) for the front.

the stock tweets are 3.5" in install size, but the actual speaker size is much much smaller... from just taking a glance at them, the speaker itself is about 1 1/2" diameter.

I have all my old stock speakers and radio still  made myself a nice lil shop radio. (should be a how-to floatin about here somewhere)

once you get a good set of components you will never listen to music the same way again...a good 4 channel amp will be a good investment too

I couldn't agree more. Hey if you do some creative hacking and spacing you can fit 8" in the doors and 4" in the dash.

When I'm done I plan to have a 8" in the door 6" in the kick, 4" in the dash, and tweet at the top of the door panel.

But yes the factory siz is 6.5 door and 3.5 dash.

sorry for the resurrection but good info in here :)

I haven't torn apart the door yet so I am not sure what the stock speaker looks like but, my question is weather or not the Front door speaker is just a component type drive or a 2 way speaker. Just trying to get an idea of what the stock freq. response is of the stock speakers.

Pretty sure my magnet just shit the bed on my stock speaker.

well its a 6.5 in speaker in the door and a 2 in speaker in the dash so technically it is component but not a very good one

My head unit can support the rms power they need but these will definitely be able to handle an amp in the future.
They require 2-75WRMS.

great speaker choice but your head unit cannot properly power them. 75rms is what they suggest but those speakers can handle (and want) considerably more. i have 2 sets of type-x comps (spx177r) and the passive set (for now) is getting 125 per side, the active set is getting 50 to each tweet and 125 to each mid.

forget mounting the tweet in the dash as well. it will sound like crap. after a few hours of positioning i found the best response came from mounting them in the sail panels.

yeah i just want the drive idc about the tweeter. I know i'll be at about 40% power of the capable RMS of these speakers but they should still work they just won't be able to throw as much power as they could.

JW, where would I hide a 4channel amp and how would u recommend wiring the setup?

I was thinking of hiding the amp in the dash or in under a seat and then running a line back to the center console and using the existing speaker wiring.

don't do it. the tweet is the better of the 2 speakers in that setup. it will be a night and day difference using that over the stock speaker in the dash.

you can hide the amp anywhere it will fit, provided you have adequate airflow around it for cooling. i am a little more crazy than most when it comes to audio so i ran all new speaker wires (i needed 2 sets into each door anyway for the comps). i can tell you that you can hide the crossovers behind the side access panels for the dash and save yourself some hassle by only having to run a single line to that point, then 2 off the crossover into the doors (if you go that way, and i highly suggest you do).

where did u hide your amp?

with the 4channel amp i was planning on just using the LPF on that instead of the crossover. That is if i get the amp.

i didn't :) i built a little amp rack that sits between the rear seats and the sub enclosure.

using a lpf only will not be good enough. your mid can only play so high and still sound good, that is why it comes with an external crossover.

nvm found my solution :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgDiWwdz ... re=related

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HXApOzqxih ... -Pack.html

this should be enough to drive the components. Hopefully my rear kenwoods can handle the added power.

i was getting to the point where i was just gonna toss any old 2-way in cuz i can't do a setup like u have. I autox so that would be a no-go. This solves everything. :)

Fortunately the tweeter mounts were easy enough to chop the centers out with a small flathead and a hammer and then grind with my handy-dandy (read: shitty) Harbor Freight multitool to insert the new tweeters into the old mounts, so you shouldn't have any problems with those.

I was able to tuck the crossovers in the dash as well; one next to the metal bracket by the left tweeter and one in the center-front, in that protruding semi-circle. I really don't see how in the hell you could mount an amp in there, unless there's space behind and below it, against the firewall. Still trying to figure out where to mount an amp myself as I don't want to have to run wire back and forth from the trunk.
