important safety warning!!!! also foul language warning!!!!

Post by Paralyzer » Fri Jun 23, 2006 10:10 am

***WARNING***The following statement has foul language and should only be read buy non-virgin ears!

Do not buy Kumho ECSTA ASX tires! I just bought a set when I mounted my rims and now 3 weeks later, I had a sidewall to blow out of it last night going down the interstate at 70mph. I was lucky to control the car and not wreck which was my main concern with my girlfriend in my car. Also my rim was lucky enough to rest on the tire and not get screwed up. I mounted my donut on and went to Sears where I bought the tires and they didn't want to do anything about it. I told them they would do other wise. I was pissed! And they didn't want to fuck with me when I am pissed. So after arguing with them for about an hour I told him plainly that I would not leave until they mounted a new tire on. So finally they decided they would mount a Falken Ziex 512 tire which is the tire I really wanted to begin with but they only had 3 when I needed tires. So anyhow, They agree to put the new tire on and I was watching through the glass into the shop and the guy doing the work didn't know what the hell he was doing, I saw him scratch the inside of my rim with the prying bar so I flew into the shop and he knew I was pissed so he took off out of the shop. If he would have been there I would have knocked the shit out of him. But I ended up mounting the new tire up to my rim and airing it up and then mounted it up to my car myself. After it was all over with They expected me to pay for the mount and balance even though I did it myself. They wanted me to pay $15 for it but instead I left 15 pennies on the counter and grabbed my keys and left. They didn't try to stop me either because they knew they would have been knocked the shit out of and layed on the floor. So I went ahead and left. But I am going to contact Kumho about their shitty tire and let them know that I will not buy another tire from them. Indeed I am taking the rest off and will be buying the rest of the falkens from the net because I do not want sears to have any of my money. when you fuck with my car, you fuck with me. When you fuck with risking my girlfriend's life, you fuck with me. When you do both of them, You have seriously fucked yourself in the ass and you better not be around me.

Thought I would let you people know what I have experienced and let you know about the quality of the product mentioned and the poor service at Sears. Now I feel a little less stressed about this now that I have posted it, but it still isn't over with.

so i was at big 10 tire one day getting my tires balanced and rotated and a guy was putting some tires on some 22' rims...well to make a long story short the guy put the rim on upside down and ended up destroying the rim. the big black guy about killed him until he said he would buy another rim for him.

Course you know, defects happen. Doesnt mean that that particular brand and style of tire is shitty. Not everything is always peachy.

Sears automotive however, I wont mention. My family has had enough bad experiences with them to stay away for the last 10 years or so.

Agreed.....I know many people with those tires that have not experienced problems...I personally think that Sears F'ed up mounting it...

Yes, it could have. That makes that one tire defective, or it makes the guys at Sears who mounted them fuck ups. It doesnt mean that kuhmo makes a shitty tire in general though.

#1 Thats why you dont buy tires and your underwear at the same place.
#2 I've dealt with those tires numerous times and never had a problem. Tires do have defects and it happens, nothing is always made 100% flawless.
#3 You talk alot of crap but im sure 50% of that never happened

Ok, dont start the flaming here too...
Ive had the Kumho tires on my 03 SXT and they were great, never had a problem with them and there now on a buddies SRT4 with no problems. Honestly the only kumho's(from experience) that I would NEVER buy again are the 712's, they just suck traction wise all year round...
As for getting them mounted and balanced at sears, I would agree with a few others. Sears is going to hire the cheapest no brained employee's they can for there autoshop, duh how hard is it to change oil....duh, yeak I can mount tires too....
Next time around, actually take it to a shop that deals with wheels and tires and know's what they are doing...Dunn tire, Firestone, a DCx dealer..etc..etc..
My comment is nothing at all against your option to choose a place to get tires mounted, hell I would even take it to wally world since all they do is oil changes and tires

The Kuhmo ASX is one of the best performance tires out right now. I just sold a set today to a guy in a 03 SRT4. Tires just dont blow on their own. You probably had a nail or slow leak int he tire that caused it to blow out. I deal with this kind of stuff everyday. (Discount Tire Co.) And people think that tires just BLOW all by themselves. Not true. Your first mistake was buying tires at Sears. They dont know shit about tires!!! Good story though.

so true, ive had bad experiences with hankook and kumho. Im running 215-40-17s and every new set i get no matter what brand of tires, I always get those small lumps on the side walls. thos lumps are why i swiched to kumhos 7-12s. then 6mo into the tire i noticed the lumps on the 2 front tires. i upgraded to the supras and still the same.. what the hell causes these lumps.. i know its a tear in the inner side wall so i try to keep the speed under 70 or 80.. im guessing the tear is caused by hitting dipps and pot holes at high speeds. if so then no tire is safe..not even the stock siz cuz i used to fly threw speed bumps @ 60mph and as a result i had lumps on both front tires treds and blow on the highway..

It depends on the lump your talking about, if its a dimple inward on the tire, most tires have that because of the manufacturing processs, if its a bulge outward than thats a different story...

No problems with my tires...I would buy a new set if I had the chance. Plus mine have defect warranties from Discount Tire :)

Though to tell you the truth...walking into a store and talking shit wont get you anywere.

Though it is a real nice story...what are you going to do about 3 new tires that you will have to buy somewhere else now that you can't go back to sears?

outwards is a sign of crub hitting,
inwards is a manufacturing thing...a dimple if you want to call it...

A bubble on the sidewall is called a "impact break". That is caused by a pothole, railroad tracks, or any hard impact. Something has to give and it usually is the tire. A dimple on the sidewall is actually not a defect. It is where the plies of the tire come together and overlap. It is actually the strongest part of the tire. I have to say that the Kuhmo 712's are really prone to "impact breaks" I have the Yokohama AVS ES100's and have hit some really big stuff and never had a impact break.

I only run Toyo 4's on all my cars. They are the only tire other then the Prada that I like. Kumho's have a terrible threadwear and most I deal with dont balance as well as Toyo's and I always have to match mount them

I wouldn't really call ASX series tires "performance". They do very well for being all-season, but most summer tires do better. I've done head to head comparisons with Falken 215s, and it's no contest. Either way though, my ASXs have been great tires. Not many tires can keep you on the road during snowstorms deep enough to use the bumper as a snow plow, and also keep you out of last place at an autocross, but they have done just that for me. I don't expect to win anything with em, but a great set if you don't have the option to run 2 or 3 sets for different circumstances.

"ASX" stands for "all season xtreme performance." Thats why I said it is a good "performance" tire. Not the best but is still high on the list. Great for someone who wants good handling and all season traction. Not for someone who wants all out handling and doesnt care about all season traction.
