i think you should use a filter set up like what is used on the K20 with ITB's..

thats a good idea. I havn't seen that style of filter before.
Yesterday I auto-x and there was two CRX's that where running ITB's one had a K series motor with a one off carbon fiber plenum after the TB's and another was running a I think a B series with carburated ITB's with indavidual filters.
So today I made an apointment for an hour of dyno time on the 5th. Here is what I'm going to do.
Run 1: stock intake
Run 2: Ghetto blaster
Run 3: ITBS
This will be on the following engine.
SOHC, Stock block and compression,ported/Pollished head, Crane springs, magnum Cam, Screaming demon coil, msd wires, champion plugs, (car runs the best on these) Stock ECU, TTI long tube Catco 2.5 cat, 2.5 pipping to a 4" race muffler to a Dynomax super turbo.
I will not have A/F charts as they where extra and I have a wideband installed will see if I can get a video camera as well.
For the runners on the ITB's I'm going to use a stock plastic Plenum chopped and clamped to the ITB's.

Well, from what I've read your ITB setup is sweet....I wish I could see the picture. It says it's been moved.
Anyhow, dyno numbers will be awesome to see also. My brother and I were thinking about doing ITB's on my car, but we hadn't found any premade setup....so we were going to make our own.
PM some pics if you have them!!

Punch in ITB on Ebay and you will get several choices. There are two stock set-up from a GSXR currently for sale and neither are going for more then 200.00. To who ever gave me a hard time for not saying how much I paid. it was a little under 200. I didn't want to give out the info becuase people tend to think up all kinds of crap if you for the stupidest things.
It looks like I'm going to have to delay the dyno time a little as my clutch blew up yesterday and the car is now parked. Tell I have the money to get a new clutch.

Oh, by the way you have no idea what your talking about. The E-30 BMW does in fact have a real ITB set up. One of my buddies just bought one and I just spent the last two days helping him track down some assorted probloms.Wisher2 wrote:The BMW E-30 has 2 TB's I researched it on the internet and yes it has a filter next to the bumper.....It goes filter-MAF-Intake Plenum -2 throttle Body's-Throttle Body Gaskets...etc...
I am one of those Piece of Shit people that have to know it all and no they are not 44mm they are 46mm and they have an upgrade to a 48mm for 2,000.00
Noticed several things:
1. there is no vacume lines coming off the runners post TBS there all before the TB's.
2. It starts to make good power above 4000RPM much the same as our cars with cams big enough to make the kind of power that car does.
3. Its not very loud at all.
4. The air filter sits bellow the MAF. There is an intake tube that goes in front of the bumper then dumps on the under side of a flat air filter then goes up to the MAF it then goes into the short bellows tube to the plenum that then feeds the ITB's there is then a short plastic heat disapator and then it all bolts to the head.
5. The valves on that thing are huge compared to our cars and the ports all also huge.
6. Has some of the best port work I have ever seen on a factory production engine.
7. All in all it has to be the best sorted and most well designed engine set up I hav ever seen makes are cars look stone age in comparisson. and this car is from 1990

blue demon02 could you post a couple pictures of the setup? The one in the first post isn't working for me. I'm looking at several different years of GSXR throttle body setups, and I have some questions. First, how big are the TB's you have? 38mm? And do you know what the size difference is between the 600, 750 and 1000's are? How are you going to do the TPS?

Ok, moving on.
As mentioned before there is a guy that works for a local performance shop that spent the better part of a year making a custom ITB set up with a one off Carbon fiber plenum. Is on a Auto-X CRX that runs 5-10 secands better then a miata.
I plan to run cran 14's in my 2.4 with the peak power beeing after 4000RPM then the fact that ITB's on a Engine when done right hit max power at the same RPM then these should make the car scream. Right now I need to figure out the Plenum. I have through research and seeing others set-ups figured out how to get around the other obsticals.
MAP/vacume will be run from a vacume tree that will get a line from each runner post TB. With out going MS or standalone there is no good way to ge the computer to read a pre TB set up for those things.
IAC motor will be plumbed into the same vacume tree what I will do is take my 96 IAC take the Adapter made for 2000 neons to use a stock 20001+ TB have two fitting welded to it and run a hose to the output and a breather filter on the input.
For space to run a plenum on thhe ITB's I will move the radiator in front of the radiator support. Will probely use a Honda civic radiator. Car does not have AC or power steering so there will be plenty of space if I move the Radiator. Why use a honda civic radiator its half as thick and half as wide this will allow me to put the intake pipe on the plenum in the middle of the plenum and run it to the front of the car achieving perfect flow to all four cylinders. The air entering the engine will not have to take anymore then one 75 dagree bend.
As far as the TPS sensor the the GSXR has a verry similler TPS to the neons, it allready has the tab for it so just got swap a neon one on it.

Over view of the whole set-up

Here you can see how the throttle is linked together

And here is the small vacume ports that I will probely use for my vacume tree. I'm concerned about them being too small. If they are I will just use the extra injecter holes as a vacume source.

I agree I will probely not be using those runners at all. To much work to get it the way I want it. I'm probely going to make a custom aluminum intake with it.BlackRoseRacing wrote:You should hack those runners down a bit more, they look a little long..
I'm thinking of using a stock DOHC intake. What I would do is chope most of the runners off put the ITB's in the place of the runners and then use the stock plenum. Weld the stock TB opening shut and then weld a new 60mm pipe to the center facing down.

have you figured what to do with the IAC? I'm thinking bout this setup, but that so far is the one problem i forsee... and advice?
Also i found this site selling velocity stacks for ITB's... may be usefull when the time comes. Seems to be reasonably priced for a quility product,,, but if you did use this site, it would give you a good idea of what to look for.

Nice site, the pic of the custom wrx intake manifold has me thinking but not sure if I have the space to do what I want and still use velocity stacks.CA180 wrote:have you figured what to do with the IAC? I'm thinking bout this setup, but that so far is the one problem i forsee... and advice?

Sneel peak of a set of runners I'm amking so that IU can put it on my 02.

Sounds like a decent plan... but i still dont follow to well. You are going to commect it to all tb's right? if not you would only alter the Idle air of the one sylinder that its attached to,,, but like i said, i dont think i'm following too well. Thanks for the response. I will say one thing,... we're lucky we dont have egr pipes to worry bout!

Ok, that is a bad drawing I made to ilustrate what I will be doing for the IAC motor.

Where the arrows are pointing I will tap for the vacume tree.

I have in my possesion some -8 fuel rail stock that tomarow I will cut down a drill/tap for the vacume tree.
As soon as I get the waterneck I orderd these are going on the car. I hope to have them on by mid next week. After i do some more work tomarow I will post up some new pics.
