car keeps eating up mounts? wtf

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

car keeps eating up mounts? wtf

Post by twistnturn » Fri Jul 14, 2006 8:16 am

Well I first started with the rex mounts a couple of years ago and the kept falling out, so I put some prothane (race) inserts. Well the lower passenger side mount went out after a couple of months. Now my AGP dogbone mounts that I put on about 8 months ago are going out as well. And its the lower pass side again.

anybody else have this problem?

I keep getting this rubbing/clunking noise when I shift or under acceleration. I don't do hard launches that often.

I know its the mounts cause the prothanes were doing the same thing and it went away after I replaced them.

Ive had Deyeme flex mounts in all three places for 6 years now, never had a problem.

Had mine for 2-3 years now with no problems, some of the best mounts out there.

I'm curious to know what you mean by your dogbone mounts going since it's really more of a solid unit with a presses bushing in the end. Care to take a pic to show us what it's doing?

As for the REX and Prothane inserts. The REX have been known to fall out which is why people use washers on the ends to keep them held in from falling out. Same goes for the prothane inserts, they walk out over time and the zip ties they include aren't strong enough to hold them in place and snap over time. Once again, people have also either used bigger zip ties or use a washer on the ends to keep them from working out... or just glue them in.

Why not jsut save the money and but the 3m urethane stuff and fill the ones you have now...

3m item #8609 URETHANE WINDOW ADHESIVE

mask one side with tape and fill in the other, set out to dry for 3 days and done.. you mught still want to use washers to keep it from falling out..
