your opinion on best location for a neon light?
your opinion on best location for a neon light?
yeah so ive had this thing laying around for a few years... never wanted to use it.. never wanted to throw it away... i'm just like that..
so now i'm thinking about throwing it in just for kicks
its about 8" maybe 10" neon tube.. blue .. but i havent thought about where to put it ....... thinking that it should be out of the way and not really noticable, just "there" .. with easy access to 12v..
suggestions? (or comments on how neon tubes are lame) :p

The only place I could think of that wouldn't be like...well, gay, is the trunk. I don't know if you have a system but maybe you could mount it to make your subs glow. you could just rewire it to your trunk light.
Meh, I dunno.

lol
i figured as much
glow i guess belongs underneath cars :p
i got a system but its not anything on "display" so the glow would just be kinda lame too.. but who knows... i guess it could work.
or use it as an alternate trunk light... i had planned on doing something with LED's for the trunk light so maybe this will go with that...

put it just behind the grill it would shine through and look sweet but it also depends on how done up your car is

only thing about having it visible on the outside of the car at all is the police... sure itd be kind of hard for someone to think that a small blue light means youre pretending to be a cop, but i still dont think they like that kind of thing
recently someone got pulled over on the highway by a dude in a volvo and gave cash as a payment for a ticket............ as if that wasnt obvious.
plus im a security guard so they see my badge and uniform with a blue light and yeah......... trouble.
lol
and my car is not done up at all.. its stock... and i just so happened to have screwed up my paint job even more so now it looks so bad. lol.

^Wow. You mean at no point in the installing of those you thought "wait....this is starting to look absolutely terrible."?

But it doesnt look terrible. I have a 10" blue tube in my trunk, mounted behind the speakers. I did it at first to show off my old subs but now its quite nice. Its blue but it lights up the trunk a lot better than just the stock trunk light. And in the middle of the night when looking for belt keepers, and bullets when youre tired and end up dropping a tray of them while loading magazines its nice.Nick Drake wrote:^Wow. I have a couple smaller tubes I plan on installing under my dash also just for the hell of it. I kind of like it myself. And my blue under car neon is still fun when driving though the country at night.

under the steering column so it shines on the pedals maybe? I always thought that was cool (better if both sides have em of course). not bright tho, just a little hint of light would be cool IMO. otherwise, somewhere out of sight, like the glove box as someone said.

actually it would fit nicely in the glove box.... if i could only think of a way to make it turn on when the glove box was opened, and turn it off when it was closed
maybe the other way around would work because being closed i could possibly use the two parts of the latch to act as the ground.. no ground = no power (glove open) .. but reverse that i cant think of anything offhand...

if you dont, just goto the junkyard and goto anycar that has a glovebox light, and just remove the connector from it, add it to your glovebox, and wire it into the neon light. So when the box is closed, the light is off, and when its open, the light will turn on. Much like a refridgerator... (the light does turn off int here right?)jT wrote:yeah im not even sure if i have a glove light or not.... ill have to check... if i dont how could i make that work?

from what i can tell of the wiring diagram in haynes, a glove box light has a wire that goes to it from a power distribution box...... if that option is not on my car (which its not) would just throwing in a part from the junk yard work?
but it doesnt matter anyways because unless i put the light BEHIND the glove box it wont fit
im gonna put it in the trunk as the light.. already tested it and it works, just need to actually install it
and then see how it looks

you can still use a junkyard part, but it will be independantly wired for the most part.
You would tap into a constant 12v source to have it run to the switch, then from the switch to the light, and just have the light either ground to the frame, OR tap into an existing ground wire, the radio is a good example for both a constant 12v source and a ground wire and its also close to the glove compartment.
But, yah, the trunk would be a good spot to put it too, either way, its a good use of the light
