Probably not a huge amount, but I think it would increase some.
Also not to hi-jack but TNK, if you are trying to decide on whether or not to switch to a synthetic, if you have a lot of miles on your engine I would suggest that you do not switch... if you want more info PM me and I'll try to type up an explanation.

no explanation needed for me....i know what can happen. Thanks for the offer. I'll only be at about 40K when the oil changes run out. I'm getting about 26-27 around town right now. But thats after getting rid of the stock spark plugs. anyone read the article when sport compact car tested the SRT-4 Lightweight? Yikes. Got V-power NGK's and my mileage went from about 23 to where it is now and i can shift into 4th at 35 without bogging. Gas mileage does fine as long as i stay out of the magnum intake.

I've kept track of my mileage, since new. After 2K miles break-in, I've used Mobil 1 5W-30. Good exhaust, CAI, UDP all help, but the single biggest factor contributing to higher mileage is driver technique. I drive 50 miles (95% on the freeway) a day to work. At 70-75 MPH I'll get 28-30 MPG. At 65 MPH I'll jump up to 32-33 MPG. My best commuting MPG is 34.5, not using the AC. AC drops me 2-4 MPG. Gradual acceleration helps also. Good MPG = no smiles per gallon. Smiles = $. Take your pick.

and that cost only gets worse when you have to run 93 octane like i do. But the sound of that magnum opening at ~5K through that CAI is just too much fun.

Sounds just like me hehehe. I'll be accelerating like normal in like, say 2nd gear, and then just get a notion and I'll go.. hmm... lets go to 5k haha JUST to hear it! It's sad, really. Oh, and I get anywhere from 24-28 in the city. Believe it or not, I drive hard, and I get 28 mpg. It's gotten colder and.. I don't know, I don't think my car likes it, it's getting 23/24 now. But when I used to try to drive normal/easy on a tank, I ended up getting worse mileage. I'll get a consistent 33 on the highway. My sister ('02 SXT) gets 35 on the highway and 25 in the city. No mods to hers, well she had an exhaust... but not right now. I've got UDP and CAI (half of an AEM, lol).03rtneon wrote:and that cost only gets worse when you have to run 93 octane like i do. I always thought my better mileage in the city had to do with me doing highway speeds, hence getting into 5th gear. I normally cruised at 45/50... but not now that I got another ticket. Anyways, that's my car... and I use 93.

My grandfather's old 4.7L Dakota (now he has a Hemi Ram) had a feature that would calculate your MPG and show it on a digital display. Not too long after he bought the truck, he switched over to Mobile 1 and his gas mileage averaged 2-4 MPG higher. I wouldn't assume the exact same increase in a Neon because of engine size differences, but it will help a little bit. More importantly, it keeps the engine running smoother, for a longer period of time.
Another factor that will greatly improve your engine life is the oil filter that you choose. There have been many studies done on this and you can find at least one of them on the other .org. I, personally, run the K&N filter. The only other filter I would consider would be the factory Mopar filter.
Of course greater performance, better gas mileage, and longer engine life come at a price. I have a Moroso oil pan which holds more than six quarts of oil. With the oil filter included, it takes about seven quarts to fill my engine. Add up $4.99 per quart of oil and a $10 filter...it's not cheap. I may save money in the long run due to fewer necessary oil changes and better gas mileage, but it still isn't fun to fork out $50 for supplies to change my oil. These are all factors to keep in mind when changing oil types/brands. Now, back on topic...

I put my intake on and gas millage went ^^^^ before I used to get 200mi/10gal now this past week I have 140miles and a little over 1/2 tank left.
I guess if you push your car harder with the intake because it feels and sounds faster you would be increasing your gas consumption.
For me easy driving and CAI helps a lot.

I got an '04 R/T that gives me a consistent 27-28 mpg. My driving habits vary from cruising 70mph on the interstate going to work to making a balls-to-the wall run to the volunteer fire station where I still serve.
The car now had 8k on it. I've installed the K&N air filter and a set of Champion RC9YC4 plugs. I keep the tire pressure 34psi front and 36psi rear. My highest mileage so far is 31mpg and the worst is 21mpg suring the "storm of '04" here in the Cincinnati area.
Try removing the CAI for a couple tanks of fuel and see if it makes a difference. There was a dude over on miswestneons complaining of shitty mileage. He removed the CAI and it made a huge difference.
SIDE NOTE: the IAT (Intake Air Temp) sensor in the air intake tube by the throttle body signals the engine controller to widen the fuel injector pulsewidth (amount of time the injector stays open spraying fuel) in response to extremely cold air temps. At normal temps, the controller makes no adjustments. At -20*F, the controller will widen the pulsewidth 25%. The CAI just aggrevates that condition in cold weather like you get.
Let us know if this helps.

man i must get awesome mileage! i still average 36-38 on the highway at 75mph. i have noticed that now that i'm back at home and my wife drives the car more the gas mileage is down. she winds it out to 5K+ every shift. i am getting about 100miles less per tank of gas now!!! if i'm easy on it i can get over 400miles out of a tank. before the cam and all it was well over 400miles if drove nice and easy. hmmm....not complaining. gas mileage was what i bought the little turd for in the first place. the hotrodding happened cause it's so darn cheap to soup up neons!
ooh...there's a glimmer of the dream left!!!
