I found a 3" s/s exhaust system at work. I have the means to cut and reweld it to make a CAI. My question is..will it be too big for the motor to draw the air in? Or should I stick with 2 1/2" like the others are made from?
Thanks for any suggestions

umm....i think the AEM V2 is like 3 inchs on the outside but it has a smaller tube on the inside of that 3 inch tube...you might could rig something up like the V2

Id personally suggest stickin with a medium sized tube, simply to avoid losing any turbulance. Kinda like exhaust sizing; too big will cause a major loss in turbulant flow. Stainless is overkill for a CAI, too heavy and way harder to bend and cut. Just use aluminum or even lesser materials (PVC/hard plastic).

Id say go for it the first gen guys have ben using 3in CAI for years with no probs and you dont need turbulant air in your cai. just look up the argument between the smooth aem style bellows tube vs trhe ribbed soick one.

The only reason for the stainless is it has nice mandrel bends, and is free. Cutting and welding is not a problem..20 years of welding ,fab, and machining exp..thanks for the input.
