what the hell is up with these, they mount back in the exhaust and the piping runs up to the engine bay

(shown below on a 2005+ gto)

(shown below on a corvette)

(shown below on a LS1 transam)

wonder how this would work on a neon?

yes it can work on a neon but they only do it like that because of space

Ya they work, however give somone a jack and about 20 min and they will steal your turbo...

Someone had this at the Dyno Day last week from what I hear... I didn't get snap a pic though. 01rtgurl might have... sounded rather interesting to hear someone mounting the turbo almost on their exhaust tip

Why? lol I've got a friend that ones run on a lowered LS-1 T/A. Its perfectly fine. Just don't burry it in water...

it works on v8s because the amount of exhuast gas pushed thru the pipes is FAR greater then that of a 4cyc. and as you see, even on those large motors, they still use TINY a/r housings to fight spool time. when i lived in sfla there was a black z28 wtih the kit, i think it was the first proto of it, it was on like 7 psi, made well over 450rwhp i believe. the idea of this is that you can still have your long tube header, and basiclly all your n/a mods, but then throw a few psi onto that for some REAL giddy up.

as far as a neon, youd need a HIGH comp n/a built motor, and a TINY TINY baby dick turbo to get this setup working. i saw it once at the track on a civic hatch back. with a .48 exhuast house, he reved his h22 to almost 11k, and was hitting full boost at some god awful number like 8-9k. and this was a purpose built race car mind you...

Umm, my friend is using a T-76 with an 88mm housing. Not small.

I've seen them mounted on old 2.8 V6 cavi's, and it worked pretty well, propelled the car deep into the 12's.

I think it would work quite well on a Neon. Given a slightly ported head, a decent set of cams, and a good header/exhaust combo, with a properly sized turbo, badda-bing!
