Falken tires??

Post by daaboots » Wed Jul 26, 2006 9:39 pm

So I currently have Wanli (cheap no name) tires and have driven them for about 2000KM. I took my car back to the tire shop for the 5th time complaining about a vibration. We put the wheels on the balancer 1 by 1 and each tire was out of round.

They asked if I wanted to replace the Wanli's or upgrage; I said YES to the upgrade.

They suggested Falken ZE512. Has anybody had any experience with this tire? Any comments? The price seems right but I just wanted a few opinions.

Thanks

You mean Falken Ziex's? If so I have them and I love them, can't wait for the snow to fall to test them out, the salesman said they were much better than the stockers in snow. Plus they've been great summer tires so far. I've yet to hear them squeal.

es100's did not impress me. I ran them on the 15" in a 205/50 and the 512's on rota 16" in 205/50 and the 512's were hands down better for straight line. Now the walls on the es100's were stiff and helped in the turns, but I still favor the 512's more.

Well i finally got my Falken ZE512 installed. It took almost a month for the tire shop to get them in.

I'm so dissapointed with them. I still have a vibration at highway speed. It was good for about the first 5 min or so, then the vibration came back. I dont know if its the tire, the road, or if this is just normal. Plus, they look butt ugly compared to my other tires. Looking at them from straight on front or behind, they look real skinny, almost like the stockers.

What a waste of money :?

yep...they suck as a performance tire as well. very loose block pattern. they are essentially an all-season radial that happens to come in low profile sizes. they are good in the rain. however, the tread width is indeed narrower than similar sized tires. i have 205-40-17's and the tread width is only 6.5". the sidewall also flexes significantly more than other tires that i've had. even 205-50-15 yoko's were stiffer. i won't buy them again. i'll just bite the bullet and get either the azenis or something else. oh btw forget the 150+ z rating. my tires get downright scary around 115-120.
ooh...there's a glimmer of the dream left!!!

Do you have rims? I only ask becuase I though that if you don't have those inner rings to help make the rim "hubcentric", then there will be vibration because of how the rim sits on the hub.

Not sure though. There is a thread over on Srtforums about it. Might want to look into that.

*Edit*

I just took a look at this thread:

^^ yeah i have hub centric rings. It was really weird. Everything felt fine for about the first 10min, then the vibration came back.

I'm just gonna go back to the tire shop again. This will be about my 7th time  I'm sure they're gonna hate me soon.

Take it to shop that has a hunter 9700. It will apply road force to the tire to find the problem. If you change the tires and it is still there, then it is a greater possibility that it is something else. The high spot of the rim and the tire could be lined up on top of each other. Check out this link for more information.

I had to have my srt put on one b/c I could not get rid of the vibrations. The problem was that the high spot of the rim and the tire were meeting on 3 out of 4 wheels.

I had the 512's on my car after I had the es100's and the falkens provided better rain and dry drip(at the track, most likely due to a more flexiable sidewall), but the es100's had better cornering

Thats great info :D When you did this did the tire shop cover the cost of the balancing??

I had them balanced at firestone 2 times, this never fixed it so I took the car to Fisher Tire and they fixed it. Cost me $80 since they had to unmount and remount the 3 tires. Took it back to Firestone and they did cover it for me.

Well I got home, raised each corner of the car, and gave the wheels a good spin......

all 4 tires are out of round. They move up and down when you look at them straight on. So either I got 4 more bad tires or my rims are bad.

I'm so frustrated.

Well this is the plan. I'm gonna get a full refund for the rims and tires, put the stockers back on :crybaby:, and wait till the spring for the discounts to come out. I found a local shop that does that special wheel balancing and they said that if I bought a rim/tire package they would use it if necessary.
