Aftermarket 1.5din HU Ques?

Post by 02R/T-NY » Thu Jul 27, 2006 1:09 am

Does any one know if there are any 1.5 din sized aftermarket head units available that will fit our cars? I know that pioneer sells a 1.5 din sized unit but according to crutchfield .com it won't fit our cars...

there is a face kit they sell at Wal-Mart. It is the same size as the radio in the neon. Costs about 10 bucks. It fits perfectly. I just replaced the stock head unit in my neon because it was acting up. Everything was pretty straight forward. I was not looking for anything fancy, just wanted a radio with mp3 player option. I bought the aftermarket head unit at Wal-Mart also. I paid like 130 bucks for it. I liked it cause it comes with remote control. It took me about 15 mins to install the after market unit. Of course I also bought the wiring harness connector and antenna adapter as well. Overall I think I spent about 160 bucks. I'll post some pics up of the finished install if you want. Just let me know!

^That's an adapter that makes a smaller HU fit into the 1.5 din hole that our neons come with, what he wants is an HU that fits right into that hole basically.

wont happen without modding the factory bezel, i do this stuff for aliving, yes it can be done, no there are no 1.5 din radios that will fit the factory opening look at a standard aftermarket radio installed there is very little room left over, i seen a pic somewhere of a guy who installed a7 inch touch screen that operated a pc in the dash again custom work and custom = $$$$$ i'll be happy 2 do it for you but to be honest the 1.5 pioneers are crap, little features in alot space i am currently making a single din unit and center channel speaker work in that opening.
BEER is the answer! but i forgot the question....

I think Pioneer still makes ONE HU for the factory look and installs directly into the hole of Chrysler/Dodge vehicles. Look it up on their site. hell I will go do it and prove myself wrong/right.

those wont fit 2gen neons, and they blow, the design hasnt changed in years, it has very very little features and way over priced, it will fit 1st gen neons rams etc with the rectancgle shaped factory 1.5 din radio. look at ur fact rtadio and go look at a 1st gen ram or neon factory radio now does it look like it will fit, no it wont, the pionner is the same size as the factory first gen neons rams etc, also 1st gen s-10s and some 2nd gen s -10s, thats what made them so popula when they first come out, easy to install bug butoons easy to use, alot like a factory unit, now your factory bezel could be modded to work but its just not woth to install a subpar headunit

Can we re-surface this topic, because (1) it was never told how the mod (DD+bez) is done, and (2) I'm knee deep in for an AVIC.
I don't wanna start building up an expensive navi with something I cannot use, for crying out loud... :banghead:

Degrading my comments with the words you use; is it necessary? Moreover, you make no point at all, and here's why. This is a forum, people are going to come, and people are going to go...all the while, our common interest, the 2GN neon, is growing older, therefore, some posts will have to be revisited. Your comment is senseless in that regard. Obviously, you didn't think about that before you said what you did. I don't hide the fact that I'm new here, but you don't have to display your ignorance because of it.

Okay...cool. I searched; link's precisely what I was talking about. Something to start with that's for sure.
viewtopic.php?t=34084&highlight=double+din+bezel

Oddly, I didn't find this in my first search before post -- mistaken "overlook" I guess. Nonetheless, appreciated, esp. the http://www.fiberglassforums.com link. :D

Here's another thread with a mod job, without the actual install though:
viewtopic.php?t=31964&highlight=double+din+bezel
Something I can still work with.

Another:
viewtopic.php?t=28371&highlight=double+din+bezel
Hmmm, gaining ideas now.

Okay....I've decided I can do this myself. Hope I don't shot myself in the foot. Thank all of you for your presence; thanks for coming!
