Extremly squeaky brakes.
I have been told that the brakes on neons tend to be very squeaky due to some sort of accumulating brake dust. My question is, is there any way to fix this problem to make it a lot less noticeable considering every time I get in my car it sounds like its ancient when its only a 2002? If I switched and got the srt brakes is it the same thing? Are there any brakes or braking system that can be added to this vehicle to stop this altogether? I know my quesitons may sound dumb but I am very novice to cars. Thank you in advanced.

Yeah man I'm with him. You might wanna check your rotors....when those things start to go they start to squeel and squeek. Try just putting some money into it and you should see a big improvment.03sxt wrote:OEM brakes suck on these cars.
Buy better brake pads... That's what I did and I haven't had any problems with squealing since... Not that I had too many problems before.
the rear drums are the big problem (if equipped, that is). they sqeak a lot sometimes, mainly when its cold or wet outside, and my dads neon does the same thing. if the squeaky ones are the discs, change the pads and/pr check the rotors. Inspect the entire system and change parts that are worn.

OB is exactly right, its probaby your rear drums, and they squeak, no matter what you do. Most "fixes" are only temporary.orangeblastsxt wrote:the rear drums are the big problem (if equipped, that is). they sqeak a lot sometimes, mainly when its cold or wet outside, and my dads neon does the same thing. if the squeaky ones are the discs, change the pads and/pr check the rotors. But, if you think that your noise is bad, try riding around in a 96 Plymouth Neon Expresso, in the desert, with brakes that havent been in changed in 8 years.

Find your local supplier that carried BG(siegel) products and pick up a bottle of BG stop squeal...$11.10 msrp..
We use this stuff on EVERY car that gets brakes done at the dealership and none of them ever come back for squealing brakes. I used it on my 03's rear drums because of the same complaint...
Put this stuff on your rear shoes(soak them good) and let them sit until they are dry, re assemble your brakes and be done

^^might have to try that
but you guys should hear mine squeek, its louder than my exhaust is. its the loudest squek/squel ive ever heard, but it goes away after a few hard brakes or after they warm up. and its coming from the rear drums too.

Definate build up of brake dust. Once a year I pull my drums to do a brake inspection and clean them out. Never have the problem. The only time I did have the problem was just after I bought the car, it was all full of dust and crap. Cleaned the drums, and scuffed up the pads and it was good to go. The bottom edges of the pads like to build up a lot of dust making them squeal like a banchee.

I think that question was answered pretty clearly above mang.
If theyre worn, replace them. If theyre rusty, clean/replace them. Rear drums squeak no matter what.
btw, high performance brakes, especially cuz of the pads material, tend to squeak MORE than lesser oem brakes. this comes as a surprise to many people, but its typically the truth.
